MANILA - Are e-cigarettes a 'gateway' to regular cigarettes? The president of the Philippine Medical Association said he is backing a ban or regulation on the sale of e-cigarettes in the country, saying many young people are enticed by it.
PMA president Leo Olarte said e-cigarettes still contain nicotine which is addictive. He said smoking e-cigarettes could entice young people to switch to regular cigarettes.
He warned that smoking could increase blood pressure, affect the heart and lead to chronic obstructive lung disease.
"We want it banned because walang maidulot na maganda ito...Akala nila OK. It's in. Bibili sila ngayon e walang regulasyon nito o prohibition. Kung hindi ito maipagbawal, dapat i-regulate or i-restrict and lump it together with regular cigarettes," he said.
