I don't hate gays, but I tend to bicker when pro-gay activist put themselves in a "sphere-like exclusion" from the world, and say " You are not allowed to hate us, but we can hate homophobics or Catholics". Blacks are born blacks, Jews are born Jews, but Gays are born men or women.
I'm neither pro nor anti-gay. But it annoys me to hell when either position tries to suppress the others freedom of speech. In this case, the teacher is bring close-minded, just because a person is seen with the confederate flag, does not mean they are associated with the white supremacist who are very vocal against a lot of people, including homosexuals. If southerners/white folk are proud of their Dixie heritage, let them express it. They have as much right to express their being as the gays/lesbians. Now if that student wore a white hood and started throwing Hitler salutes, now that would be something else. Again, Confederate Flag = could symbolize pro-slavery, anti-abolition, but it is also a symbol of Dixie heritage.
