i believe the holding of hands was never instituted by the Vatican but rather a personal expression of the Faithful
as a physical gesture of unity among the church.. so there's no reason nga walaon kay it was never official in the first place.

the Holy Mass though in sequence or somewhat choreographed, i don't see anything wrong with it though
for the reason that everything in the Holy Mass focuses on the Glory of God through His Son Jesus.
if one would see it this way, the Holy Mass is the complete act of worship, provided that one does everything by heart.

seriously, there was a time when we visited my wife's province in Mindanao
we attended a Mass where people hold hands in praying the "Our Father" i felt the unity among the congregetation
nga maski pag wala kaila akong tupad nako, gigunitan niya akong kamot..
dayun pag peace be with you, wala lang ning bow ang mga tao sa palibut, but really shook hands and tapped the shoulders of the people around them..so i opted to do the same...and it felt good..
so a little exageration wouldn't really hurt, especially if it is done under the state of grace.
