Thread: studying C/C++

    Just focus on Computer Science concepts and sound Software Engineering techniques. These are the most difficult parts, imho. Learn how to solve problems using a computer as a tool, and everything else will follow. Programming languages can be learned in about 2 weeks. =)

    sa pagkakaron PHP, kay mao man gigamit namo sa office. but i really started with C, then C++, (coz i had the same notion before but just to realize that it wasn't really necessary), then i studied C# to get into asp.net, but then i got accepted in this job that's using PHP as the main language so k ra sad...

    but still i'm continuing my study of C# so i can eventually get into asp.net. why? kay dako kaayo sweldo ang mga .NET developers sa Dubai. hehe... why? because .NET is for large-scale projects for large-scale businesses - w/c Dubai has plenty.

    i thought PHP would be best if i learned the LAMP structure (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) which is gaining popularity among industries now. so i know i need to study Linux also to be more competitive out there. hahaay... so many things to learn with so little time. naa pa man guy uyab manglu-od gud kung dili atimanon. hehehe...

    but really, when it comes to industrial needs at present, you can see it as your choice between .NET and open-source. both are needed by industries today and are going to stay for quiet some time. you can opt for C# if you choose .NET, or you can choose PHP for open-source. but again you have to be familiar with LAMP if you choose open-source - to be competitive.

    if you want to not only develop websites but also desktop applications (softwares), then it's Java or C# you want. they can do both.

    and also take note, there's a new kid in town. and maybe you will prefer this eventually. it's Ruby on Rails. it's gaining a lot of popularity nowadays. it's open-source and i heard it's very efficient. but job-wise, i can't really say since it's still new.

    kung passion jud nimo ang programming bai, di man ka angay magproblema kung unsa na language imo kat-onon..
    kay ako.. ganahon ko kat-onon tanan lingwahe.. hehehe..

    way panghambug, pero kabaw ko javascript, vbscript, perl (gamay wa kaayo nko napractice gud), java (gamay ra pud kay di ko ganahan, na curious lng, pero kabalo ko mujava), C (the best! and first in my heart and first learned pud, hehe), C++ (the best japon OOP), C# (pang nindotay lng sa code, elegant language, too bad .Net ra ni magamit), visual basic (kinaraan na desktop applications, lingaw kaayo ko ani sauna katong visual studio 6 pa gamit, the best book i could recommend kay kanang kang francesco balena, as in one example na dili kailangan kamao ug C/C++ to be a good programmer), vb.net (visual basic na gihimong java, hahaha), and last but not the least, basic, kanang imong code kay per line, unya mag goto goto ka.. hehehe..

    those are just the languages, to really make use of them, u need to learn the technologies that are implemented thru these languages.

    err.. im not the best bro.. but thanks for the compliment :mrgreen:

    like i said earlier, i just mastered one language, which was taught in school, kanang C, and the rest I self study. but kanang self-study, di na na ako ra jud nagkat-on, i read about a lot of other people's styles pud, so good books are a necessity (and hard to find pud), and learn from other gurus, (which are sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo to the millionth degree hard to find pud jud, so far, ma-ihap ra jud sa akong fingers, and i keep contact para kumusta lng).. its lonely out there good programmers.. bitaw, i learn from others, let them teach me, figure out why ana ilang approach, put myself in their shoes, and decide for myself kung maayo ba ni.. if i find it na maayo, i adapt to it, if dili, i discard it and flag it as not applicable or efficient enough for my needs.. hehe..

    katong books earlier i suggested, katong art of computer programming, it was suggested to me by someone older na maayo pud kaayo.. ma-ilhan man nimo na maayo gud kay naa jud xa method na maka-ingon ka na WOW! panagsa ra na.. he's not old old, mga 5 years older ra gani nko..

    reading books is a must jud if i say so myself..

    and having the state of mind na ur never to good to learn something different (or new) even to the point na muclash xa sa imong existing na-kat-onan.. naa pud koy na-meet na mga ppl gud na think kahibaw na sila tanan, mu-introduce ka ug something else kay sirado kaayo ilang minds.. stuck stagnant ka kung ana..

    what do you want to learn na man bro? ka-decide na ka kung unsa?
