Intel Atom Sandy Bridge for NAS

So balik ko sa intel atom ani... Mind if I ask again kung unsay latest ron nga intel atom (desktop)?
Kita ko ani tag 4.3k, ok naba na siya? Next problem is kay duha ra ka SATA ports ang naa sa kana nga board and I think lisod pangita dinhi sa Cebu nga pariha ani. Need 3 HDD (except for the OS) para system image, backup files ug multimedia (apila directory sa torrent)

ang last micro-architecture sa Atom kay ang Cedarview... mao ni ang CPU sa Cedarview...

kun mag lisod ka'g pangita ug Atom board dha na mo support ug 4 SATA, why worry. naa'y mga LGA1155 na low wattage... just buy the cheapest H61 chip set mobo and the "T" prefix CPU then you're good to go. ayaw pangita kun wala dha bro. dili gyud ka maka sugod... hehehe... para maka sugod ka then mas powerful ang set-up nimo compared to an Atom based one...

otherwise, pwede ra ka mo butang ug add-in card para ma pun-an ang SATA ports nimo if kanang Atom boards ang imohang pili-on to add for 4 to more drives...

kun naa lang ni na mobo diha... ASRock E35LM1, Gigabyte E350N & Biostar NM70I-847... kumbate unta ni sa need nimo... 4 SATA ports ni sya... then kani sila sa Biostar kay 3 SATA... A68I-350 DELUXE... try ask or order sa ani na mga mobo na akoang gipangmention basin maka order ka ani nila... puro na mini-ITX form factor... pero, mga AMD APU na sila... except sa Biostar NM701-847 kay SB Celeron 847 na ang CPU nya...

Wow... But one of my requirements is to buy cheaper ones (second hand, I guess) and don't want to go to AMD route 'cuz I might introduce some unsupported software issues/problems, no time to fix/hack some patches or codes, I'm not good at fixing low level languages. I'm okay nga dili pako ka sugod kay for this year mani nga project... Kapoy taod2 ug external and dili sad ko ganahan gamiton akong second hard disk para torrent downloads; I have my important files there and I'll consider your suggestions. Thanks bro!!!

ah i see...your welcome bro... for 2nd hand Atom CPU & mobo combo, no idea ko if daghan ba ang namaligya dha ani pud... if maka kita ka'g Pentium M... either Dothan or Banias adg a socket 479 mobo, ok pud ni bro... kaso lang, 32 bit CPU man lang ni sya... ang the mobo only supports 2GB max system memory. dili lang 64 bit pero, low wattage ni sya gihapon...got a dothan (Pentium M 770) and a banias (Pentium M 1.33 MHz) here also... mao ni isa nko na plan for the FreeNAS box... ang 32 bit OS compatibility lang gyud akoang "show stopper"... pero, for a NAS storage + torrent on UFS volume, ok ra gyud siguro ning Pentium M...

I think pde ra SD card iinstall ang freeNAS. Not sure, basi na mix up nako sa RPi. Anyways, you might want to go for SB or IB para gamay ilang TDP compared to old tech. But if naay 4 SATA port sa Atom, mas labing maayo.

^ pwede ra i-install ang FreeNAS OS sa SD card or USD drive... ayaw lang gyud sa HDD or SSD kay dili na magamit ang extra storage space paea sa uban. i-exclusive nya ang storage kun asa ibutang ang FreeNAS OS... ang gusto ni TS kay "OpenMediaVault" OS man hinoon... wala pa ko naka suway ani... if maka himo ko'g lain NAS box (old tech HW for fun of it lang), ganahan ko mo suway gamit sa ani na NAS OS pud...

Bisan Pentium 4 kaya raman kaayo for NAS, important lang is Gigabit LAN, enough RAM for your OS, Storage space, Good 24/7 PSU cguro.

^ mao gyud. naa'y mga stand alone NAS na available sa market but for me, the joy of doing a PC HW DIY plus the set-up of a NAS OS then completing its configuration is worth the experience that no stand alone NAS can offer... heavenly ang accomplishment & enjoyment bisan less than 30 mins lang mahuman ug set-up... both HW and software on a PC based NAS box... hehehe... basin mao pud ni ang gusto ni TS...
