    Default Canon 40d

Hi everyone! I'm selling my Canon 40D with Canon 220ex speedlite, 50mm 1.8 with lens hood and 18-55mm non-IS kit lens, complete with a camera bag, boxes and receipt for identification. First-owned.

I bought it in May 2008. It's a couple of months short of 5 years but the actuations do not reach 10,000 (I think, and I have no idea how to know). I haven't been using it much since 2010 (because photography really wasn't my thing and the body of this one is too heavy it annoys me after an hour of use) so I'm pretty sure it needs cleaning! It wasn't on a dry box all the time. Normal wear and tear so it is not in mint condition. I do not know if this camera can still be sold considering it's a really old model and how much it is worth (with the accessories). I'm estimating PHP 25,000 but you can let me know your thoughts on this?

    REPRICED TO PHP 20,000. FIXED.

    Thanks!

    Hi
You have a very good price but unfortunately buyers of used photographic stuff are reluctant to spend 20k over an item that’s already three generations deep even if it has attractive freebies. Entry level models with more MP, better low light performance and an ever improving video functions can be scored for under 20k. Perhaps you can get your 25k via the chop-chop way.
    Here’s my suggestion:
    40D body -17 to 18k
    50mm -3.5k
    18-55mm non IS -2k
    220ex flash -2.5k

Hi thanks for your input. All noted. I thought so that I won't be able to sell the cam at a good price. I just didn't have any benchmarks so I admit I may have overpriced. I don't want to let go of them chopped so I think I'll be willing to drop the price to PHP20,000 all included. Price edited. Thank you sooo much bukake..

    very nice point sir.

but lets also consider that 40d is astill a very capable camera. its a semi probody, magnesium alloy body, it has a dual monitor, dual dials, and has a certain degree of wheather sealing.=p

This cam can well worth be a backup body for photogs whose looking for a body that can take a beating.=p up for the seller.

True, true but we are not assessing it for practical value but on how to sell it fast. I got a 600D for 26k and had to give it up for 15k in a span of just 6 months. I scored a 60D for 30k and gave it up for 23k in 4 months. What I gave up on value I gained in time/momentum. I had to sell them fast to acquire a full frame cam. I presumed unloading these items were foremost in the seller's mind and that their practical value had to take the backseat. This is how bargains are born If you noticed there are many items here in Istorya that have been posted for over a year now. The sellers of these items kept the practical value of their items -even lying by putting the term "rush" -but got stuck in time.

Also with technology picking up speed it is wise to buy entry level stuff instead of durable items that will miss out on new functions in three years time. At the start of the millennium who would have thought DSLRs would make great movies.

And I've noticed that majority of Istorya buyers are not keen on spending 20k. Just drop it below to 20K and your cellphone will keep ringing with inquiries and questions of "last price."

20k could be the buyers' Rubicon here.

Indeed, selling the items is a priority. But I think 20k is as low as I can go.. If I were only selling the body, I can definitely go way lower than 20k. I am hoping to get a great deal and I am not bent on selling them separately as I'm afraid I might not be able to dispose the others. You do have a point, and I'm also open to price negotiations but if I go down to say, 15k, I think I would rather not sell it. I can cut down on vices and save up for a few months so I can get the same amount. hahaha!! I wanted to sell it only because I don't really need it. It still has use every now and then and for a great camera such as this one, I can extend it's life for 5 more years. It can still take better pictures than most point and shoot cameras.

Thank you so much for your inputs! ^___^

I'm still hoping I can sell this, so BUMP!!

Reading what I posted here I felt like I’m being antagonistic. Honestly it’s not my intention. I was just sharing my experience with selling and buying photographic items.

On the 20k dilemma: I am not saying all items should be under 20k. I just somehow get the feeling that 20k is the ceiling for Istorya bargain hunters. All the items that I sold that were priced over 20k were sold in either the “used section” of camera stores or by word of mouth.

On the chop-chop suggestion: I was thinking more of the monetary end. I was thinking that maybe if the set wouldn’t be that attractive at 25k maybe the seller could get her 25k by going chop-chop. I usually do this in selling my items. It usually takes 2 weeks to sell them all. There might be folks who fancy a second body but will have no use of the flash and the lenses as they already have their “L” collection so they wouldn’t be interested in the package. Then there might be beginners who already have rebel bodies who would like a cheaper 50mm f/1.8 lens so they could experience low light photography. But I understand the seller’s fear of being left with items that will be of no use to her. And her move to drop 5k from her original price is also a good business move. This will attract those with entrepreneurial spirit. They will get the package not as end users but as retailers. Cebu after all thrives in trade and commerce.

Now let me sing my praises for the 40D. This camera is the EOS APSC king of dynamic range and it is 2nd only to the 7D in fps for Canon cropped sensor cameras. It ties the 50D for 3rd place in the speed of acquiring focus, behind only the 60D and the 7D. Many pixel peepers claim that it has lower noise than the 50D at ISO 1600-3200. And it has a more rugged body compared to the rebels.

Don’t I find the 20k package attractive? You betcha! And if this doesn’t get sold by Wednesday I could very well start a career in retailing.

hahahaha thanks bukake (that feels so uncomfortable to type lol). I totally understand and I'm now convinced to sell them chopped but I'm hoping I could sell the items together first. If that fails, I'll sell them chopped. BUUUUMMPP!!!
