The punishment for the so-called crime is still excessive. This smells like oppressive Iranian religious fascism. A true democracy puts freedom of expression above freedom from being offended. This is another reason I think our democracy is just a fake disguise to hide the backwards feudal theocracy that continues to control our country. The church's lackeys don't help the situation at all with these weak defenses.

Secularism is needed to fight against the growing malice of religious fundamentalism. The argument used by the fanatics is a slippery slope. If he should be punished for offending religious feelings whats to stop someone from closing down churches because their sermons offends non-believers feelings? You can't have your freedom while taking away someone elses. sine qua non

what's stopping non-believers from suing churches if priests / religious leaders force themselves into said non-believers' houses bringing placards saying "burn in hell"? by all means, sue them and let the slugfest begin. as long as religious practices are practiced inside the property of a religion's church, i have no qualms about it. if they start going inside my house without my permission and expressing their religious freedom there, then i am well within my rights (and anyone else should also be within theirs) to force them outside and seek for legal relief.
