I think the problem is social in nature,
and I guess it's because there is a less interaction
between each family members with each other, thus a failure
of an outright monitoring between parents and their respective
children, siblings etc. is so distinct. I believe that the control
should be within the family level. i.e. mental state of
each family member and access of firearms.

In my state, we don't require license or permit to purchase firearms. We do however need license/permits for concealed carry, as with most of the states (except for the ones with constitutional carry).

I'm a gun-owner, but if ever the U.S. government decides to put restrictions on what type of firearms I can purchase/own, then so be it. I will respect that--whether others say it is an infringement of rights or not. I disagree with the principle, but I will respect the verdict--if it will come to that.

I think the right to bear arms is an essential right because, if we look at some recent U.S. history, particularly during the 1992 LA riots--the right to bear arms practically enabled the Korean-Americans in LA, who became targets to frenzied rioters, to protect their properties, and well-being. Same goes for some people during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. Let's face it, there are realistic or theoretical situations where law enforcement will be stretched too thin (much respect for them), and it will leave ordinary citizens to fend off for themselves. Like @balipseyev said, di mutuo ang criminal ug balaod.

I do not fathom the need for us to discuss their municipal affairs.

However, to give justice to the topic and the discussions going on,
they Americans (inc. us Pinoys) accepts and understand the fact that the government can not protect everyone and each one of us, thus, the government allows its citizens to arm themselves and protect their self interest with impending crime arises.

The shooting cases in the US were a sensation to the media and to everyone of us concern, but, I do understand the fact that those incidents are isolated ones. Though the shootings were planned, it was not syndicated or shall we say an organized crime.
For if we try to look and pick the details, only one person (shooter) is involved in the incident.

Still, and looking at the positive side, I would want them to have guns and protect themselves.

If they want to curb trigger-happy incidents, i suggest they review all their medications first... but i feel there is a conspiracy going on, US has always been known for false flag operations...

These shootings were related to Barry Soetero's gun ban campaign. As some of us knw that he is a communist and every communist state disarmed their population. lol

What is getting more frequent? That there are killing sprees or that media coverage is getting more overblown and frequent? I assure you the latter is more true. There have always been gun crimes but the fact is, violent gun crimes have steadily gone down over the last 30 years. What do the numbers tell us? It tells us the opposite of what the media and hype tell us. I can't blame the media. It is their job to make money and things like this is easy money. But the truth is, they really are just profiting from sick crimes without telling the whole truth that it really is much better than what everyone says.

Violence against children seems to be a recurring theme. The premeditated massacre of school kids, often perpetrated by kids themselves using high-powered firearms seems to be an American phenomena. China has also had a spate of school attacks, the major difference is that the weapons have been knives resulting in many injuries, but far fewer fatalities. This I believe illustrates the risk to society's most vulnerable in terms of gun ownership. Don't get me wrong I'm a shooter myself and I believe that keeping a small firearm at home for protection is sensible, however I do not agree with the stance of the NRA in The States who seem to resist "any" type of legislation no matter what.

Barack Obama is under pressure to tighten gun laws after following the disclosure by police that the Newtown gunman used a semi-automatic assault rifle equipped with "numerous" high-capacity magazines holding hundreds of bullets to carry out his massacre of young children.

The US has the highest gun ownership rate in the world - there are 89 guns for every 100 Americans, compared to 6 in England and Wales.
And the murder figures themselves are astounding for Brits used to around 550 murders per year. In 2011 - the latest year for which detailed statistics are available - there were 12,664 murders in the US. Of those, 8,583 were caused by firearms.

I guess a control in procuring a gun is not anymore necessary
89% would suggest that it's already too late.
I think what they should do is to promote responsible
gun ownership and promote close knit ties between
    members of each community.

The gun related crime rate did decline
since 2005 but still the present number
    is noticeable.
