Ubuntu phone OS announced, first devices shipping in early 2014

here: Ubuntu phone OS announced, first devices shipping in early 2014 | The Verge

As already teased and promised, today Canonical is taking the wraps off the mobile version of Ubuntu, which is built around the existing Android kernel and drivers, but doesn't use a Java Virtual Machine and promises to use "the full power of the phone." Supporting both ARM and x86 processors, the Ubuntu phone OS will be compatible enough to let Android phone makers run it on their devices with minimal adaptation.
Ubuntu for Android, announced in February of last year, will be the first step to getting this new ecosystem out to shipping devices, which Canonical chief Mark Shuttleworth says will definitely arrive at some point during this year. While no carrier or manufacturer support has yet been announced, the first Ubuntu for Android handset should be provided by a "high-end" Android device maker.

Proper Ubuntu phones are promised to be out in early 2014, but the company has a number of demo phones out here in London and downloadable images of the development platform will be available for the Galaxy Nexus over the next couple of weeks. That's the only officially supported device for now, which Canonical expects developers to be working on as they start fleshing out the ecosystem.

Canonical (The Maker of Ubuntu OS) does not market PHONES at all, I saw this on Engadget and heard the owner saying their OS (UBUNTU) will hopefully run on any mobile devices... Tablets and/or mobile phones.... as the demo itself, he was demoing a Galaxy Nexus which ran UBUNTU natively...

So the new smartphone OS market is not only confines anymore to Android/Windows/BB and IOS.... there's a new kid in town....- UBUNTU...

Hopefully lang, many Smartphone manufacturers out there (e.g. Samsung,HTC,LG and etc) will also try out Ubuntu and not just rely on one OS alone.. (like android).. at least their is diversity on the user's part na...

iyang UI is a cross combination of Android/BB10 and Windows, but more on swiping jud... Quick access of menus/apps is their main forte
