Couldnt Agree any better than this.

IMHO Consider yourself and the NATURE of your gaming lifestyle. ONLINE, STORY mode, FIGHT GAMES, MMORPG, Campaign or just gaming for leisure. Note that the PSN envirornment requires a STRONG and STABLE internet connection games like BF3, MW3 and BLOPS2 and similar FPS games etc. all require access to the PSN and for utmost online fun hencefort a LEGIT unjaibroken PS3 unit is required. On the other hand if you like campaign, mission2x games, storyline based games, sports games, kiddie games for family games that doesnt require PSN access like SKYRIM, GOD OF WAR, MARIO world, HEAVY RAIN, PORTAL and the likes you can go and play with a JB PS3 unit. The downside of a JB unit on a HOMEBREW game is after you FINISH the WHOLE game you will shortly be looking another GAME to start of with. With PSN access your LEVEL-UP activities, possible interaction with players around the world and prolong fun is equal to the AMOUNT of money you paid for the game which is now roughly around 1.5k - 2k depending on the GAME.

    To SUM up:

VERY VERY good ISP + Mahal na games + LONG HOURS of PLAY = LEGIT PS3
AFFORDABLE Games + NO PSN access / Multiplayer + Play until GAME is DONE = Jailbreak PS3

of course some people who aren't quite pocketful will go to the cheap pirated games

some resort to jailbreaking so that to preserve the blu ray lens. eventually it will wear off. rather than playing games via BR, it will be played via HDD which is more convenient.

even repackers in torrent site urges downloaders to buy the game. In the uploader / repacker's perspective that the downloader will first test the game not as a demo but a full version game. If the downloader likes the game, the uploader encourages the downloader to buy the game.

Jailbreak for me too. Just bought one.
If you love the game support the devs and buy it.
Do you read manga online? For me its very similar.

I'm not so sure about this but I think Jailbreak is legal.
Haven't the kid that JB the first PS won the legalities?
Then Sony paid that kid a shit load of money to stop JBing?

When you use a JB PS3 online I think it only updates your firmware to the legit firmware therefore unjailbreaking your console. It doesn't ban you. I mean, you bought the unit then modded it. How can that be illegal? And why would Sony ban you? That's a lose lose.

And no I just don't collect games. I play each and every one that I get on my ps3.
Just finished some. Now working on other titles.

    Pure BS.

How exactly are they encouraging downloaders to buy the game? By putting a small note saying “buy the game”? How about they make a good review about the game and convince people why the game is worth their money.

If they have the slightest concern, they will not upload it. If, for some reason, they can’t stop their hands from clicking the upload button, they should at least show restraint by uploading the game a year after it is released. The first month of a game’s sales is very crucial. Why are they releasing rips on the same month the game is released?

At this time, I don’t get the “downloading the game to test it” part. With how the internet is today, there are many ways to know about a game. Video trailers, live video streams of game walkthroughs, comprehensive reviews and developers even take time to make downloadable game demos. This isn’t the year 1995 where the only way to obtain game demos is by subscribing to game magazines, or going to game conventions.

I’m not sure I’m following you, but if you meant playing illegally downloaded games on modified consoles, then…

The comparison to reading manga online is stretching it. The problem in the manga industry outside Japan is a problem of service and distribution. The conservative approach in localization of western publishers is related but a totally different one.

The availability and the means of obtaining games compared to obtaining manga are miles apart. Video game retailers here have more to offer than bookstores which carry manga have. Consoles also have online distribution channels where most of the notable games are made avaialable. Compare it to manga which sill relies on physical distribution. Importing manga is an option, but even then, your choices are still limited because of the aforementioned conservative approach in localization of western publishers of manga.

    No, they didn’t.

Modifying a PS3 violates the EULA. The legalities depend on where you live. I’m not familiar with laws in the Philippines, but it wouldn’t surprise me when courts decide in favor of Sony when they bring up the case.

Just to be clear, I’m not against homebrew on consoles. Homebrew. Jailbreak is a funny term because it has a negative connotation. I appreciate the solution it offers to shitty drives/ lens in consoles. But when the cons outweighs the pros, not only on the consumer level, but also on the industry level, I can continue gaming without it.
