Default Have you heard about this? - CA BON rejecting NCLEX applicants due to curriculum (ASHE?) flaws...

This issue is making its mark nowadays...maybe the discussion focuses on articles written more happening in CA BON. However, it's been making waves too that other BONs will follow suit soon. To be honest, while USA is in the midst of it great recession and most hospitals now are employing only with BSN degree. Most of those Associate RNs even working for decades are forced to go back to school for a BSN upgrade just to stay in their positions. But sad to say, most of Asso. RNs lost their jobs.

I have a colleague who worked for 20 yrs as LVN, few weeks ago she received a call not to go to work on her shift and she is terminated. I transferred to Northern Ca but i came from the east coast. My employer before, as far as i can remember...long before the recession they have stop accepting LVNs and this was 2003.

Nurse graduates and licensed RNs, what is your position on this? What is the current curriculum now? is it still ASHE? Its time for all of you to lobby to the congress to put back the old time Comprehensive Curriculum where students are exposed to more of clinical setting and skills practice.

that is still the situation here especially in cali. most of the big healthcare facilities are being informed of this as well. Mercy network of hospitals are particular of RNs with such qualifications. I dont know with Kaiser and Sutter yet. but anyhow Kaiser is the most difficult to get in so far. the more things are difficult because of the great recession. we are hearing we "might" get into a 2nd dip again. Europe is into it currently.

In my facility, we are alternating "called off to work on our regular sked" this is to keep the hospital afloat. revenues are not coming in. most of the patients are elderly and their coverage are Medicare or Medicaide. Meaning govt. funded healthcare. ang distribution ani is 80-20. 80% govt. will subsidize and 20% is the patient liability. The govt cant pay asap after discharge. They have a process to follow. so what does this mean to facilities? of course they have to find ways to let business survive. they take it on us... this is how politics and economy goes hand in hand now. they too have no choice.

ikaw na gusto mabuhi, wud u leave or just grab ur old job? NO. i wud not risk it! swerte lang ko naa pa ko sa ako position bisan wa koy seniority to be honest. just transferred to No Cal last april 2011 and so far, a lot has lost their RN jobs specifically the ones with no BSN degree. millions of people are dying to get in to work regardless of any field these dri karon sa US.

just wait on january 2013, if fiscal cliff GOES, thats how hardship begins . . . . . MDs etc will not be paid if the medical management are questionable. Meaning they just cant order anything unless approve by the case manager. even if paid it takes time like 60days or more. so facilities without own funding gets close. MDs quit handling insurance. then there will be a SURGE of Nurse Practitioner, subsitute for MDs primary care. One MD is entitled to at least 10 NP to maximum of 20 NP as there man power. So if you are an RN / BSN now take the trend by enrolling NP. in Tenessee there is a ONE YEAR fast track program. 4days a month. in Carson right now CDU. thurs to sun every mos for 1 and 1/2 yrs. after these. it will take 3yrs to finish NP.

the good thing is Federal can offer educational loan for NP, provided after NP loan borrower shall serve the depress areas in USA of your choice for 3yrs. then loan is considered paid. how about that. mind you the loan not only includes school fees but all taken care of from housing, food, misc expense.

it started last year. the 1st batch that finish paid their loan, some serve the depress areas.

yes, i knew about this somehow. most of ur clinics and PCP clinics have them on board already. plus, we got wat we call the hospitalists and NPs more on the unit now and less Attending MDs already.

Re ur info about NP serving the depressed area after accomplishing the course...is this all over US? or is it just in your state? coz my cousin just finished her NP at John's Hopkins University in Maryland and she is serving an faciltiy that is found within the city in Baltimore til today.

so far what i know is CA. for further info Licensure exam in CA is not needed to practice NP. hope not in the future years to come. some NP student have been offered service from busy and active medical practitioner while still studying for the course. meaning there is a job waiting.

FYI : ALSO, there is a surge of Case Manager course base on the nos of hrs. 1st 10hrs lecture, 2nd 20hrs hospital training 3rd another 20hrs OJT. then you are deployed to either Health Insurance or hospital. During my 10hrs lecture training kaiser offered our batch a job while still on course.
