I never thought of this. If not extraterrestrial, my other interpretation about the four living creatures would be some nations.
Example: ang eagle kay mu-represent sa US.

wa jud ta kahibaw bai, we can only assume...these things are far beyond human comprehension..
but as far as Christian theology is concerned bai, they are not figurative, they are actual heavenly beings...
in constant motion worshiping the throne of God.

They're protecting the throne of God because as we know there was a war happened in Heaven long time ago and that war is still happening "War of Good and Evil".
