Even if he is indeed "fictional", as you say, people still can discuss the purpose of his death. Much like looking for justification of the events that transpire in a movie.
@r/brey: wow.. what a question... what a site!
I don't think there's ever an entry in the Bible which says that death is God's will. If there isn't then it means that this is a fallacy. Who told you that? Imong lola?Originally Posted by tingkagol

There''s an entry in the Bible though which says "for the wages of sin is death".
Yes we have a purpose and we have freewill as well. I don't believe that we have a predefined purpose or life designed by God. Nope. We're our own pilot. The mission of the coming and death of Christ was to bring the good news so that we will be guided despite God's physical absence on earth, the Spirit will always be there when we call Him.Originally Posted by tingkagol
The interference I previously discussed only encompasses God's interference against evil and it's destruction towards man in the old days, the Old Testament that is. But if we talk about God's interference through grace and blessing through prayer, that's a different thing.
Christians, muslims, buddhists... everybody prays.Originally Posted by tingkagol
Like I said in another thread it is only in the Spirit shall you understand and see the truth. Your mind can take you anywhere, your eyes can read all sorts of things which say their ain't no God, BUT if you're in search for truth, life, and eternal happiness know the Lord and His glory.
People who are faithful in the Lord, follows his commandments and live a life of righteousness live blessed lives. My question is, is your life blessed? One thing I know about atheists and the likes, they will eventually become unhappy and miserable. Most of the very intellectuals who deny there is a God often blaspheming especially the Holy Spirit die sad and are walking failures in society. Don't trust your brain it will give you misery. I hope one day they will wonder why.

perhaps He interfered. we just didn't notice.
it was planned.. it was already written by God.
n`gel: my point was to create a line in the sand where people can meet and agree (at least those who believe that he did exist, anyway).
if indeed real, the events (worldly, if you may) that lead to jesus' death (at least the political turmoil and unease) cannot be contested as the reason for his death; a reason that can stand alone without the support of the reasons pushed by religion.
conflicts will arise. but i believe they do not have any place in this discussion, as the reason that i have supplied above does not in any way conflict with the religious side of his death. in fact, i believe there is nothing wrong in the aforementioned reason for any sane christian to deny it.![]()

gareb: I think you missed the point in this particular discussion. The question is "Why did Jesus have to die"? "have to" makes the difference. Why did Jesus die? Because of your fact, and it is yes written in the Bible. But the question has a 'have to"... which warrants reason... can your history give reason? I guess this question ain't for you.
