Pollution, Starvation, Overpopulation, Strange diseases because of processed foods and some sort. If you think about it, Life was very simple unlike today's simplicity, wanna be strong? At least they have still hands to work with feet to walk with and a mind to think with so, unlike today ... CAN YOU STILL FIND FOOD THAT YOU CAN KILL FOR FREE? maybe there's a few but only a few. Back then you can be someone, a HUNTER, a WARRIOR, a SCHOLAR etc,

obviously you've been reading too many fairy tales. Rarely do people come out of their castes. If you we're born a peasant, is highly unlikely you were going to be anything but a peasant. Education then is a treasured thing, and it is not readily accessible to just some plebian. Everything then is by "divine rights" and almost always you are predestined to become whatever part of society. And most likely if you we're born into peasanthood, you'd buy into the idea to accept your place in society. If you didn't die during birth, you could die during infancy, if you didn't die during infancy, then there's starvation, wars, pestilence, diseases to get you before you reach adolescence, and even then you'd go back through the spin-cycle. Then there's also over-burden by doing manual labor. If you manage to get past all those, you will die at the ripe old age of 50--which is considered a long life back then. You're right, back then, life is simple...but don't mistake simple life for easy and free life.
