winters during that time were hell. If you didn't have a good harvest during the spring/summer/autumn season...good luck ninyo. You'd die of starvation if the winter cold didn't get to you first. If you braved through the winter, you'd probably end up selling your Children as indentured servants to the fiefdom or some person with money. There is also a very high chance that mothers will end dying due to childbirth--upper class ka or lower class. It wasn't all knights and castles back then.

Well you got a point. But really Starvation? Maybe for the irresponsible ones. I mean, why would people wait for winter to hunt food? or if their grains and harvest will be destroyed for them to look for another supply for food? food is everywhere at that time, and everyone knows the SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST "the strong shall live and the weak shall die"

It was the time before refrigeration and farming/cultivation was still pretty hit-and-miss. If you had a bad harvest, that would spell disaster come winter time. Serfs during that time were pretty much powerless to the elements and their lords. In some areas you'd have to face constant raids from "savages" and bandits. Life back then was shitty--if you were a serf.

Yes some are powerless at that time, BECAUSE THEY CHOSE TO BE POWERLESS, because lack of weapons and education. But really, would you like to be that powerless? We always have a choice, to be strong or to be weak. If life back then was shitty and how about today? Pollution, Starvation, Overpopulation, Strange diseases because of processed foods and some sort. If you think about it, Life was very simple unlike today's simplicity, wanna be strong? TRAIN, wanna have good harvest? WORK, they don't have any distractions aside from bandits and common destroyers, So how can they not harvest in time? so how could they not store food? if they got raided or something, and where left nothing at all. At least they have still hands to work with feet to walk with and a mind to think with so, unlike today ... CAN YOU STILL FIND FOOD THAT YOU CAN KILL FOR FREE? maybe there's a few but only a few. Back then you can be someone, a HUNTER, a WARRIOR, a SCHOLAR etc, hehehe

The majority of people in the Middle Ages were peasants so if you were born at that time there's 90% chance you will be a peasant and likely end up with a pitchfork than a sword. And there is hardly room for independence and individualism in the Middle Ages; you have to be a part of a system/group to survive. If you were too individualistic you will likely to end up being executed for suspicion of occult practice or in some instances seen as a lycanthrope (werewolf) or simply a spy from an enemy kingdom. You might be surprised to find out people back then were also not permitted to live anywhere as they please since most of the land, even the forested areas were owned by nobles and the punishment is whatever the lord of the land can think of, like death.

Then there's also plague, inquisitions, occasional armies or wandering hordes coming to your village and plundering them and raping your women, or you will be recruited and sent to war with high chances of never coming back.

Nobles were also not immune to the things mentioned above and if you got in the way of people, even your relatives chances are you will be assassinated, poisoned, to name one. And if caught some mild illnesses they might send you physicians that'll do more harm to your health. There were many instances when people died just because of a toothache.

If you were lucky you'll reach old age which was just around the age of 40+

I forgot about the clerics. Clerics had easier lives, than the rest, if you can get past the routine life of working on the fields, praying for hours even early in the morning etc.. But in the crusades some monks were sent to war like the Templars, Hospitallers and other military orders which is why there were jobs like fighting-bishops etc..then TS this is probably were you can live your dream of wielding variety of weapons and fighting for a cause.
