as far as my experience is concern, like others also stipulated on their posts, it's an informal gesture to a fellow motorists.

Like, pwede ba ako una, ikaw una, or can you put your lights to low-beam. Or sometimes, when we see our friends on the road w/c is I normally do, a gesture to say "good to see you bro.."

Here are my reasons for flashing my headlight:

    1. Blind curbs at night or even at any dim/dark areas.
I flash my HL with continuous blowing of horns.

    2. For pedestrians trying to cross the street labi na sa gabie.
Aside from blowing my horns, I would flash HL as well because what if that pedestrian is deaf o bungol?!
    Paksit! Lol

    3. Intersections. Especially katong wala o daut na signal lights. Para safe, I do it with my horns. Better safe than
    sorry ika nga.

    4. If I wish to overtake [to the left side] the vehicle before me while we're on the solid yellow [no overtaking]
    lane.
I would flash my headlight several times to the vehicle on the opposing lane since you will take/use their lane
    for awhile.
Doing so would give the opposing vehicle[s] a chance to slowdown and give way to your request.
This can be dangerous though, especially if the vehicle on the other lane doesn't understand the meaning of
    your signal.
Lisod sab ni kung naa CITOM kay parahon dayon ka. I rarely do this though.

    5. I flash my headlight with matching continuous blowing of horns whenever I wish to overtake at the right side
of the vehicle before me as well.
This is not recommended and can be dangerous as well.
Pag bantay ra jud especially sa mga taxi drivers and puj's who doesn't care for anyone safety precautions
kun naa mu para o musakay.

All in all, we just need to be responsible and considerate enough while on the road.
By God's grace, wa pa ko kasuway any road accident since day I got my MC.
I always pray and ask for God's guidance and protection.
I had experienced na hapit nko mupilit sa luyo sa taxi kay kalit lang sya ni stop kay naa ni para niya. Thank God, naka brake ko though ni skid ang rare tyre ug na out balance ko gamay. Amping tang tanan mga riders.. God bless and keep your thoughts coming so others will be enlightened.

it only shows that majority of drivers here doesn't know how to cross an intersection without devices or traffic officers.

i.e. i got at the intersection first then you're speeding to get through then you blow your horn and flash your headlights asking me to let you pass then you don't know anything about road right of way. you're supposed to slow down at an intersection. those who got in there first has the right of way.

at right angles both vehicles arrived at the intersection on the same time......yield to right

i don't see the need to flash your headlights so that you can force someone to let you pass.just study road right of way.
