and please be reminded that the remake XCOM: Enemy Unknown is coming this october na !
and also Half-Life 1 is being remade too as "Black Mesa". released date though is still TBA
They had their word as a bond in the past, but Capcom broke it.
It can happen. Nintendo doesn’t hold the rights to both RE Zero and Remake. The decision is on Capcom. They’ve recently released RE Chronicles HD on the PSN, but I’m guessing they’re keeping both of these games as N exclusives to preserve their relations with Nintendo, which as of late, has been good (3DS).
Then again, this is Capcom --the ever-so-controversial Capcom-- who knows what the future might bring?
I agree with you, though. Fans have the right to ask for an HD port, but they don’t have to keep whining and bashing when their request doesn’t get granted, especially for a port. They have to accept the fact that some games will only be released for a specific console. If they want to play the game, they have to get it on the Wii or GCN. The Wii is already very cheap these days, and it isn’t that hard to find a copy of RE Zero and Remake. But it’s sad when the reason they don’t want to grab these already released versions... is because it’s not in HD.
I don’t like the over saturated look of OOT 3D. It’s even more over-saturated when in 3D mode. The OOT 64’s logo screen was always awesome but the OOT 3DS’ logo screen looks goofy. But I agree the 3D is very well done and the touch screen menu makes everything smoother.
The best example is the water temple. If you’ve played OOT 64 you’ll know how it frustrating it was. The better depth perception the 3D mode brings also made it easier for me to spot that hidden switch, or it could have been just me anticipating where that switch was.
Not all remakes are good, though. A few are obviously just made for a quick cash. The most recent I can remember is the Silent Hill HD collection. They didn’t even try. The original Art director didn’t even like it.
they gave the Silent Hill HD Collection a 9? I'm not surprised. not surprised at all.
It's what one would expect from IGN. It's IGN! LOL
It's baffling how the developer gave little importance to the fog effect. The thick fog was important in SH2's atmosphere. What's the first thing you encounter in SH2? fog.
I get RE Chronicles being released in HD. It wasn't really an Nintendo exclusive though--just Zero and RE:Make, I reckon.
What is the big deal of re-releasing games in HD, anyway? I know that I have yet to acquire a 360 or a PS3 (later this year pa, heheh) BUT I did get a chance to play an HD version of games at a friend's house a month ago. The games were ICO/Shadow of the Colossus HD Collection (played ICO) and the Biohazard HD Collection (played Code:Veronica) on the PS3. Although I see a significant change in graphics (very smooth bitaw--ICO pa lang daan) IT still feels like the same game I played on the PS2/DC.
Maybe if a gamer never had the chance to play the PAL version of ICO (which is the best version for non-japanese speakers) OR never played RE4 or Code Veronica then I guess getting the HD collections is the way to go. Or perhaps the gamer is a fan or a completist--a collector then I do get it.
What about the ordinary everyday gamer? Well. . .If a gamer has played those games and gets an HD Collection, wouldn't that be kind of redundant? And I dunno if most everyday gamers think alike but when I played those HD versions, it doensn't feel like I'm having fun because IT IS the same game and I already know what to do. The only difference is it's visually nice but in a redundant mundane way.
Unless if it's something like what CAPCOM did with Resident Evil on the GC/Wii wherein the they stripped it all out from the ground up--added a new gameplay mechanic and new enemies (despite commenting some I didn't like) evidently it feels like a real remake. IMO HD Collections aren't really 'remakes'. . .more like a visually enhanced version of the same game.
Another remake game I also admire would be Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. Now, that's a remake right there.![]()
From the time that it was developed, to the time it was released, Umbrella Chronicles has always been tagged as a Wii-exclusive title. The exclusivity may have been just by a mere word from Capcom or may have been a timed-exclusive deal. Capcom released it this year on the PSN because (a) they always had the choice to do so, but only chose to do it now; or (b) the contract for timed-exclusive deal ended.
The same still applies to Zero and Remake. Both games are availabe only on Nintendo consoles, but that’s until Capcom says so. Nintendo doesn’t hold the rights to both RE Zero and Remake. They are Nintendo exclusive titles now, but won’t always be in the future. Although I’m slightly leaning to the side that believes Zero and Remake is a touchy topic for Capcom, but having only Capcom’s word as the only thing that binds Zero and Remake to Nintendo is not an assurance that it will always be a Nintendo exclusive.
"it'll never happen" is never a possibility. Capcom’s stance on exclusivity is one of the factors that contributes to it’s past and recent controversies.
Re-releases and collections in general are beneficial to the gamer. Hard to find games available for purchase again; some places, which didn’t get the game before because it wasn’t localized will be able to get the game; game collections/compilations tend to be cheap so it’s a good deal.
In the same way, HD re-releases and HD collections --if done right-- can be awesome.
I personally wouldn’t mind if they just re-release the game without the bump in resolution. But the modern-day gamer, especially those who started gaming when HD became a standard, simply can’t appreciate a good game if it isn’t in HD. Heck, they won’t even look at it if it is not in HD. Sad, but this generation puts a lot of emphasis on graphics. If the publishers/developers want the new generation to look at their old games, they have to release it in HD.
As long as the industry uses them sparingly, prices them accordingly, and delivers a good rerelease (not expecting something like Resident Evil GCN quality, but it should be nowhere near Silent Hill HD quality), I don’t think there is a problem.
I personally have ZERO experience in HD re-releases/collection. Haven’t taken a good look at them since the only titles I’m interested in are Silent Hill Ico/Shadow of Colossus and Okami. It’s been a while since I’ve played these games on the PS2 and despite being great games, I don’t have legit copies of these games… so it’s a good opportunity for me to finally buy and play them again. Both games are priced at only $20, which is a very sweet deal considering the caliber of these games. Unfortunately, my money is on the 3DS this year, and I’m also saving up for the WiiU. It’s a good deal but I’ll pass for now.
Well… it can be fun for people who like to replay games. I replay some of my games. So yeah, I can attest to replaying games as fun. It doesn’t need to be in HD for it to be fun, though.
Same here. That game was perfect for the Wii. I’d really like to see more of this kind in the future. IMO, a good reimagining is risky and hard to pull off because there’s a big posibility that the fanbase will just hate and curse it.
.
I know, right?
I mean I have no problem revisiting games that I've finished and enjoyed--in fact, I do that most of the time when it comes to replaying some of my personal faves. BUT I don't have to get a re-released title in HD if I already have a copy of the original version of the game. Unless if I sold it (which I never do) or if I'm a fan/completist then I would but I'm not. If that were the case (if I did sell a particular game and it was re-released in HD) then I would die trying to look for a another copy of the original release (which would be much cheaper since it's already dated)
I would get the idea if it were a recent (current) game in HD on the account that technically it is a new release title and it has to keep it touch with the times.
But as for re-released title in HD? No, I'd stick to the original release.
So for me it's like: PS2 ICO over HD ICO any day.
But it if was a remake of a particular game--and I'm talking about the real remake of a game like RE:Make and Shattered Memories (meaning a HUGE amount of significant difference over the original and the remade version), then I would get a copy of it regardless if it's HD or not. We gotta keep up with the times nowadays![]()
Not entirely true. Some games that were more than 2 generations behind or games that had a limited run of prints are being sold for an insane amount of money. HD or not, re-releases/collections gives you a chance to own them at a reasonable price.
In my case, I’d opt to buying the HD re-release over a PS2 copy. Not because of HD, but because:
Okami:
PS2/Wii (new): $15-$20
PS2/Wii (used): $5-$10
Okami HD: $20
Shadow of Colossus:
PS2 (new): $15-$20
PS2 (used): $5-$10
Ico:
PS2 (new): a whopping $50!
PS2 (used): $10-$20
Ico + Shadow of Colossus:
PS2 (new): $60-$70
PS2 (used): $15-$30
Ico/ Shadow of Colossus HD: $20
Buying it used would obviously be cheaper, except for Ico + Shadow of Colossus. But I’d rather buy the re-release because there’s not much difference in the price. There are games that I’d like to have in their original form, and while these are great games, these aren’t on my list.
Alright, man. Godspeed in finding a decent copy then. Especially that ICO+SOTC Collection, that's a bargain right there--maybe you'll get an even lower price on sale? (like 20% off or something?) Good luck with those games, man.
As for me? Well, I got it all down; I never did let go of my games soo I'm sticking up to my babies. . .
But when I get my 360 and/or PS3 (still a 'slight' chance but I am rooting for a 360 tho, hehehe) I'm gunning for the new releases. The "ber" months is soo far away pa man sad so I can wait.![]()
