Mura nag nagsulat ka ug mga panghitabo 300-400 years ago, and remember at those times gamay pa ang recorded/written history... So para naku it doesn't matter if Jesus have a sibling or not, it's my faith that through him i will be saved...

bible basis jud dapat atong gituhuan, not from mere words from mouth to mouth, Yes, the Holy Scriptures indicate that Jesus had brothers and sisters who were born to Joseph and Mary.

The New Catholic Encyclopedia (1967, Vol. IX, p. 337) admits regarding the Greek words a·del·phoi′ and a·del·phai′, used at Matthew 13:55, 56, that these “have the meaning of full blood brother and sister in the Greek-speaking world of the Evangelist’s time and would naturally be taken by his Greek reader in this sense. Toward the end of the 4th century (c. 380) Helvidius in a work now lost pressed this fact in order to attribute to Mary other children besides Jesus so as to make her a model for mothers of larger families. St. Jerome, motivated by the Church’s traditional faith in Mary’s perpetual virginity, wrote a tract against Helvidius (A.D. 383) in which he developed an explanation . . . that is still in vogue among Catholic scholars.”

yes, 300-400 years even now lisod mag maintain ug fresh papers, madaot man jud na pero it doesn't mean wala'y dedicated and faithful sa ilang gibuhat nga pagtransfer from original text or paper to fresh paper. naa pa man gani nga original text bisag pila na katuig ug naghipos ang mga tawo ana.

    to illustrate:
parehas ra na sa ganahan nga CD/DVD movies ganahan jud ta nga tin.aw ug nindot ug mudugay sad mao mag sige ka ug back up bisag ikatulo pa or kadaghan pero dili sad ingon nga ang imong gi copy kay false kay ganahan man jud ka sa imong gibuhat sa pagcopy right?

i believe on the literal meaning sa mga verses that says Jesus have brothers. Wala mana nakahinder sa ministry sa Ginoo. When we say, anak to sila ni Joseph sa laing babaye mas immoral pa nuon paminawn nganong gipili sa ginoo dili man ulitaw?

    Luke 2:7
7 And she gave birth to her son, the firstborn, and she bound him with cloth bands and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the lodging room.

firstborn means there is/are children after him, it is not indicate that he is only child.

    Mark 6:3
3 This is the carpenter the son of Mary and the brother of James and Joseph and Judas and Simon, is it not? And his sisters are here with us, are they not?” So they began to stumble at him.

Jesus called the carpenter because of Joseph which is a carpenter, obviously their family are known because of Joseph as a carpenter. many people knows that Jesus has siblings.

why many theologians maintain Jesus as the only son, but it is in fact that the Bible are telling us he has siblings?

how can we make sure that this text is not mentioning about brother and sister in faith? the bible answer that

at that time his brothers and sisters in flesh are not yet exercising faith in him. John 7:5.. not until his death.

Yep, POSSIBLE na Jesus has other siblings, but we cannot be 100% sure.

Ang catch is, wala gi-define sa Bible kung blood siblings sila through Mary.

Most Protestants, in their own PERSONAL capacity, would ASSUME that Mary would have sexual relations with Joseph and therefore would have their own offsprings. Catholics and other ancient churches on the other hand, would hold fast to the tradition that Jesus never had any blood siblings with Mary and he is the only son of Mary. However, it is also probable that Jesus have half - siblings through Joseph since he was already an old man when he married Mary.

(And did you also bother asking why God planned to marry Mary to an old man? Answers could be interesting... )

Let us also take note that Hebrew and Aramaic does not have a proper term for "cousin". Semantics in the bible is also challenging since we have to interpret it according to the customs of the time and not through literal interpretation.

"""Because neither Hebrew nor Aramaic (the language spoken by Christ and his disciples) had a special word meaning "cousin," speakers of those languages could use either the word for "brother" or a circumlocution, such as "the son of my uncle." But circumlocutions are clumsy, so the Jews often used "brother." ""
