I just read this thread and i knew i had to share my two cents on some issues (even had to register an account). I have been with the company for 4 years and I'm in the Sales Department, for people who wants a career then this is definitely a good place. Yes, just like other companies it has its share of politics but in the corporate world its truly inevitable just because your leaders are just human and they are all bound to commit mistakes although in this case it would still be subjective.

The money is good and definitely incomparable to other companies especially if you're in Sales, trust me on this, i know it as a fact. Success and satisfaction would all boil down to the dedication and hard work of an individual regardless of the department. I agree that at some point especially if youre in the production department it can be overwhelming but thats why its called work.

The base pay is higher than most plus you get incentives and with the unemployment issues, economic crisis going on around us, I don't think we should be picky. Now before you listen or shall i say believe all the negative comments about the company please know that there's always two sides in a story, maybe some people are just used to finding faults to their employers that they end up company hopping. So to those who are interested go ahead and apply and experience the company yourself and if you're bold enough join the Sales Team and literally go kaching kaching!

    Hi MizzBlabber,

    HERE'S THE OTHER SIDE

I’ve been with the company for 2 years and unlike you I’ve been in both sides of the coin. I started out as a sales rep but didn’t succeed like the way you did so I had to transfer to customer support then eventually to the production team. I may or may not have the skill for sales but basing from my experience and observations with my colleagues when I was with sales, the “LUCK” factor still plays a major role. Considering that you’ve been there for 4 years tells me you have both.

Anyhow, I would concede to the fact that success and satisfaction would all boil down to the dedication and hard work of an individual. And yes work regardless of what it is, is overwhelming indeed. However, I’m not sure how well versed you are with the production process but trust me if I can go back to sales, I would have done that a long time ago.

Now, don’t get me wrong though because I did (well, I still do) love the job or work that I was doing. Talking to authors, explaining how the production process really works. Giving them ideas on how the book should be formatted. Creating cover concept and even cleaning up the stars and moon promises of some sales people are fun.

What I don’t like is how the production department is treated by the management. You see, unlike sales, we are mandated to come in on a Saturday if we are not at pace with our MTD target/quota. Usahay feeling namo mura mi og maid kay sunday ra ang day off. At one point, nag tambay mi sa fuente circle para ma achieve ang role. Hahaha. Kidding aside, the worst part is that this only applies to the local office. I would have understood this if there was transparency of our targets in both offices just like you have in sales and get paid for the extra day. I have few more examples but this is the major problem I have with the company that made me leave.

I know that there’s unemployment and economic crisis. I’m sure everyone knows that especially those who doesn’t have a job and are struggling in making ends meet. But forgive me for being picky but TIME for my friends, family and especially for myself is far more valuable than a big pay check.

Now people you’ve heard both sides, it’s up to you to decide.

hhahaahha Xlib is not perfect, but i guess no company is. believe me, though, i learned a lot when i was there. i have skills that i use for extra income now. i labored for more than 2 years. I worked from mondays to fridays, the mandatory saturdays (usually 3 Saturdays a month), sometimes even Sundays (voluntary ni ha just to reach the needed word count), as well as do overtime (which was unpaid for a long time), lots of overtime. minimum of 2 hours almost every day. normal work hours was 9am to 6pm. my longest overtime was until 2am, and then i worked again at 9am. that's how dedicated the prod people are. i learned the true meaning of hard work, but i didn't mind. i was passionate about my job. the pay, although we grumbled about it, was in the whole scheme just secondary to the reason we were there. the deadlines, my god. hahhaha. the management people were A-holes, but that's not the reason i got out. i would have continued working, coz i loved my job, except that something else happened (personal, not work-related). i work full-time in a much better company now, and then i freelance also. so my point here is that Xlib still gave me one of the best times in my life. the pay may not equate the effort that we gave, but i gained great friends, i have strong skills that other publishing companies value, and perhaps as a result, i earn better now.

so no regrets! i still love you, Xlibris, but we cannot be friends. you treated me like crap. you're like that strict teacher we all had in our school years that we all learned a lot from but can only bitch about, but hey, no hard feelings, okay? haha

the contract states that we are paid 48 hrs a week. so in effect we agree to working 6 days a week if management asks us to.

that's why daghan moingon nga dako lagi ug basic but there's a "catch".

so naa rajud na if mo agree ka or dili, kay naa may lain work available sa uban companies.

sa sales we have 1 mandatory saturday, nya kung layo jud kaayo sa targets it might be 2 saturdays.
yes kapoy jud work ug sat but it brings food to the table and satisfies our basic needs.

Xlib salary w/ benefits is great compared to the average 6k minimum pay or worse.

Sa mga wa pa kasulay ug minimum pay, mas grabe pa ang working conditions didto, daghan pa mandatory OT nga mas way klaro. pareho ra gihapon sa call center daghan ug demands. we should be thankful of the pay these companies offer.

so maski asa jud nga trabaho, kapoy jud ug naay politika. pili lang asa at nga company malipay.
naa nalang nato asa ta comfortable ug matulon ang trabaho.
