I think what CJ did was a surprise not only for the prosecution and senators .. but even for the defense. Good lawyers will never permit their witness to stand from the witness chair without being dismissed. Now, why CJ should do it, maybe tomorrow when he will be back .. the whole nation will know. All I can say is that, not only the Prosecutors and Senators were waiting for their moment to cross examine him ... but the citizenry was acting like blood hungry romans during the gladiators act .. they wanted a kill but the gladiator stepped out .. and so the angry mob! so it was today, CJ earned the ire of the people, frustrated by his walk out ... anyway, I still want the Truth to come out ... it was an unfortunate act of CJ though ...

Actually I dont think it was a surprise for the Defense, Atty. Roy and another defense lawyer shook hands with the CJ while he was walking out.

MANILA, Philippines—Chief Justice Renato Corona was brought to the intensive care unit of The Medical City hospital in Pasig City early Wednesday, according to Supreme Court spokesperson Jose Midas Marquez.
In a text message, Marquez said Corona was immediately taken to the ICU after tests conducted by his attending doctors showed that his “Troponin T level (a blood test) is elevated.”
“Diagnosis is possible heart attack. He’s being transferred to ICU,” Marquez said.
Corona, who underwent a heart bypass operation a few years ago, was brought to the hospital immediately after he testified in his impeachment trial in the Senate on Tuesday.

I see your point giving high respect to corona in the proceeding with him on the witness stand.
The point of my comment was that, after all the high respects afforded to corona plus the unprecedented long, unhindered introductory speech siya mismo ang gumago sa korte. To think siya ang pinakataas nga opisyal sa judiciary.

At any rate expect ko nga mureact ni si MDS. Puwede man ni tingali moingon si MDS nga "binigyan namin kayo ng napakataas na respeto, huwag mo naman kaming gawing mga G-GO hindi kami B-BO". Nahimo man gani niya tawagon G-GO B- BO ang mga prosecutors.
