so to simplify things this proposal only means...
The Philippines will give its 200,000 hectares for long term lease so the Arabs can feed its nation.
Why dont we grow our own and import to them, why the need for long term lease? Let us not be too hasty when it comes to quick money here. In the end its our countrymen who will suffer in the rice shortage if this pushes through.
its starting to get gnarly here, i think we should not get lured by this especially the farmers, they should be smart before they decide to lease their lands. lets think of it this way, one of our major crops is rice yet think of it, why is it that our rice prices are on the roof?the prices are ridiculous and for some of our countrymen even reckons the prices are just way off the planet, filipinos are already struggling with the rice prices how sure are it wont get even worse once we start exporting? this means our supply will be less because of course our farmers will prefer to do exports because they will make a quid out of it but lets face it, if they prioritize the export rice, what will happen to us? dont you guys think we will definately suffer? its either we keep up or put up with the ridiculous rice prices or buy the cheaper substitute because the good ones/ export quality ones are dollar priced. definately this is whats going to happen. how much is per kilo of rice now? php 30? try php 60 a kilo if they push this through.
hurot nlng ni ug export atong bugas...samot ka mahal ang bugas sa pinas ani..
Mao ra na ang akoang tubag.. kai mao ra na ang kinhanglan nako itubag..
Ikaw ang ignorante.. you and that other guy are ignorant of our laws. These lands belong to the farmers, so the people who have the right to decide to lease the land are the farmers, not forum heroes and armchair commies like you. They own the land, not you. It's not "our" land, it's theirs (the farmers). Sige lang ka ug "kita kita" diha da.. Ikaw ang tagiya anang yuta-a, dili ang farmers? Kai ngano mag sige man ka og ingon "kita"?
Secondly, the price of rice whether exported or used for domestic consumption is dictated by the international market. If you want to force cheap rice as an issue, then it is tantamount to dictating to farmers how much they should be earning. Because if you force them to sell only to the domestic market, this denies them higher profits in the export market. For commies and people who want to control and restrict the rights of others, this is their fantasy. But I won't allow these commies to tell others what is best for them and that is what you are doing. If you don't own the land, then you should stfu. There is no "our land" there is only land that belongs to individuals, unless these are public lands which they are not. That hard to understand bro? You decide to do what you want with land titled under your name, and the farmers decide what to do with land under their name. It's simple...

hahahahaha....you are ignorant my friend! mao ra ni imong tubagon kay di man ka maka justify sa imong mga claims.
Secondly, the price of rice whether exported or used for domestic consumption is dictated by the international market. <---- sure ka? if the supply is high the prices are low, if the supply is low the prices are high! so where would the high supply start? from the farmers right? tubaga sa to akong questions nimo and back your claim. Stop capitalizing on your land lease because it is a weak justification.
lame!
Are you sure you understand how markets work? You think doubling, even tripling our production of rice will have an impact on the international price of rice? High heels.. you be ignorant
Secondly, I will continue to hammer into your head the issue about land and property rights because these are rights guaranteed under the constitution. The alternative is lame forum warriors like you telling others what they should be doing with their land. If that's the case, then I should also have the right to tell you what to do with your house, like if I want it demolished for the good of the country then I should be able to. Does that sound fair to you?
At the end of the day: Land doesn't belong to you so your opinion doesn't matter. Neither does mine, but I'm not the one telling farmers what they should be doing for their own good as that would be sanctimonious. =)
