Most of the people now a days depends on what they usually see & heard, esp grown up beliefs. With this statement, you can classify them into Doctrinal(Bible Base) which is the ideal and the so called Cultural(Maoy na-andan/Tuo-tuo) twisted faith I should say.

I agree with you, Christ like image symbol(santo, etc) worship is also called "Idolatry". It contradict in the Geniune 10 Commandments in the Bible, found in:
*Exodus 20:3 "Thou shalt have no other gods before me,"

Supporting verses:
*Exodus 34:14 "Do not worship any other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God."
*Deuteronomy 6:14 "Do not follow other gods, the gods of the peoples around you.
*Isaiah 42:8 "I am the LORD; that is my name! I will not give my glory to another or my praise to idols.
*2 Kings 17:35 When the LORD made a covenant with the Israelites, he commanded them: "Do not worship any other gods or bow down to them, serve them or sacrifice to them.

With this self-explanatory verses in the bible, it shows that God doesn't want us to pray & worship "INDIRECTLY" to him. But due to this certain Religious Organization, misleading and tolerating the community and that people nowadays is NOT really READING/SEARCHING the TRUTH in the BIBLE, the practice continued from generation to generation.

I found out there's no such thing as a lone-wolf Christian. You might be just in the Cultural Christian category - ie. Born to a Christian family, country, society, therefore you conform to be a Christian but does not even know the precepts of your faith and live life no different from everybody else. An atheist can even call himself Cultural Christian.

BTW I'm not judging you. I'm just describing what a Cultural Christian is. If you think that's not a good description of you then that's great.

Using God for their own purposes is one way of making a graven image out of Him. You can find them from all religions or even anti-religious philosophy like those used by the Communists in their takeovers.
