my thoughts exactly.. the title itself says about ICE and FIRE. I think Jon is the ICE and Danny is FIRE. Both are Targaryens.

Yeah ... I would agree with you but just to a certain extent.

I dunno ... but if one uses the conjunction AND both Ice and Fire must be satisfied. Dany is just FIRE. Jon Snow is both Ice and Fire ("allegedly" FIRE at this moment due to "rumored" Targaryen lineage and ICE because he IS a Stark).

Or maybe I just dislike Dany too much that I let it cloud my judgment. Although I won't deny that in the end she might have a role to play but as of five books, she has not done anything (GRRM rather ) that has improved my perception of her.

I'm hoping now that the dragons are big enough (at least to ride) Dany's story will pick up and she'll conguer Essos faster. I hope she'll continue to conquer East before she decides to make a move on Westeros.

I like Dany's story mainly because I'm more interested in the places in Essos much more than Westeros ( Qarth, Meereen, Astapor, Yunkai, New Ghis...)

Jon, Dany and Tyrion will play a big part in the end-game. They seem to be GRRM's favorite. But I don't think any of them will end up sitting in the iron throne. GRRM will be his troll-y self and piss off the fandom by deliberately picking someone out of the blue to eventually be the ruler of the seven kingdoms. Who knows, it'll probably be Rickon.

As of ADwD, the dragons were big enough to ride. I also do not like the fact that the dragons are in the hands of a teenager who doesn't know the first thing to do with them. That and the fact that most of the stories about dragons are tied with destruction (Field of Fire, Harrenhal ...)

I did like Qarth from the descriptions GRRM gave as well as those other places in Essos. I agree that they are definitely an interesting bunch.

What Dany seriously needs is a history lesson. She means to conquer a land that she knows nothing about. Her main source of information was Viserys and we all know how deluded he was. I also do not like the way she dismisses what Ser Barristan and Ser Jorah have to say about Westeros. She needs to know the truth behind the rebellion that overthrew her family. She also needs to know that Westeros is suffering and that bringing her Unsullied and dragons with the intent to conquer is the worst thing to do. Since she so desperately wants to go home, I hope she would think of a way to do more good than harm.

I don't want anyone to sit on the Iron Throne in the end. Westeros was fine as Seven Kingdoms before Aegon Targaryen decided he could conquer the land. Of course, he had dragons.
