Default AMD closes the gap with Intel

AMD closes the gap with Intel - eTeknix

In what may appear surprising news to everyone (given the reception AMD received from Bulldozer) AMD has increased its share in the x86 market from 18.2% to 19.1%, meaning Intel declined from 81% last quarter, to 80.2%. In the desktop market (perhaps the most important to our readers) AMD managed to grasp 43% of the market which is impressive and it just goes to show that AMD always wins when it comes to value even against the might of Intel’s corporate and consumer marketing schemes.
AMD’s recovery of the Llano APU production also helped AMD to shift larger amounts of APUs than ever before. AMD also benefited from the rising number of budget laptop sales containing AMD processors or APUs (to try and counteract high hard drive prices customers downgraded components like the processor to get more storage capacity).

nice for AMD... its really healthy to have a competition among the chip makers and any manufacturers kay ang bottom line, kitang mga consumer ang mabulahan...

    kudos to AMD!

i still got my Cyrix 6x86MX and MXII processors at home... for showcase purposes only...

Via bought Cyrix processor business... ang product nila kay Via C7 processors... application kay naa sa mga embedded platforms... they are still very much alive & kicking on that business segment...

Ahh.. Those were the days where switching from a 133Mhz processor to a 166Mhz one would be a major upgrade.

We should thank the AMD K6 and the Cyrix 686 because the competition started here made pc's affordable to the average person and accelerated processor speed exponentially.

this is exactly correct... this was during my college days... i remember that I purchased almost all processors from Intel, IBM, ST, Cyrix & Amd during these yesteryears... pagka gasto na lang gyud... halos every 2 months mag upgrade... tsk tsk tsk...

reason aning mura'g wla'y kahumanan na upgrade kay mao ni... free lance ko nag build & sell ug PC components when I was in college (before the mall days)... unay kaayo ang upgrades...

i hope that Amd will really answer Intel's CPU offerings this year or next year in terms of performance to cost ratio... para head on napud ang competition...
