Hi, I'm not sure if I'm in the right thread. This is the closest one that I could get into.

I just purchased a NextBase NB-995 HD DVD player. It came along with the television that I originally bought. The specification on its box says that it can play mpeg-4 videos. It also has a USB slot. I'm having a lot of troubles playing such video format through its USB slot. The device recognizes my flashdrive and it can even see the files inside (pictures, folders, etc). But the mpeg-4 video shows an icon with a "?" on it. When I play the file, it just attempts to play it and it goes right back to the directory.

I've tried several videos with the same file extension but I keep getting the same result. These files are playable in my laptop. I even tried matroska, avi, and other file types (which are not cannot be recognized by this player). Any thoughts?

mp4 encoding type not supported by your media player then.

Like I said, specs say it can play mp4 files.

try daw ug video nga lower ang resolution kay usahay ana amo dvd mamili dili mo play sa 1080 bisan same format sa uban...

ok i'm downloading a 720p sample clip now. will get back here for updates. thanks

same exact result. and i don't think it's a case of resolution kay it should be capable of 1080 sad. if it's not, it should at least play the audio and not display the video. but in this case, wala gyud syay playback.

most if not all dvd players supporting Mpeg4/Divx certification only plays videos encoded to divx/xvid/h.263 mpeg-4, SD formats(720x480 for NTSC, 720x576 for Pal)... it doesnt play videos compressed to h264(found on most pirated videos which has .mkv or mp4 extension)

get a blu-ray player, better chance to play h264 compressed files(since blu-ray discs are h264 compressed)--but i havent tried one yet..

This could be the case. I dug deeper and indeed x264 sya. Can I ask a favor? pwede mangayo ug sample clip nga possibly playable sa akong media player?
