24 Truly, truly, I say to you, He who hears my word, and believes in him who sent me, has everlasting life, and does not come into judgment ; but has passed out of death into life.

John 5:24 This is a very strong passage on the subject of receiving eternal life. The condition is that one hears the word. The word "word¨ is singular and this refers to Christ's declaration about His person [His deity and Saviorhood]. Then he should believe in God the Father who sent him. This means believing the testimony of the Father concerning the person of the Son [His deity and Saviorhood]. Thus the condition of receiving eternal life is believing or trusting in the person of Jesus Christ and His work on the cross, Him being God and Savior. The One whom God sent to die for our sins and rose again.

Eternal life is a present possession of every genuine believer. He is no longer under judgment. Then he has passed from spiritual death unto life. And he stays on the side of life permanently because the verb "passed" metabebeken is in the perfect tense. Once a person receives eternal life he never reverts to spiritual death. He has eternal life forever.

    "READ EZEKIEL 7:8-9"

    by Harry Ironside

"He, that being often reproved hardened, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy" (Prov. 29:1)

The following incident is vouched for by a Church of England clergyman who knew all the circumstances.

A young woman, who had been brought up in a Christian home and who had often had very serious convictions in regard to the importance of coming to CHRIST, chose instead to take the way of the world. Much against the wishes of her godly mother, she insisted on keeping company with a wild, hilarious crowd, who lived only for the the passing moment and tried to forget the things of eternity. Again and again she was pleaded with to turn to CHRIST, but she persistently refused to heed the admonitions addressed to her.

Finally, she was taken with a very serious illness. All that medical science could do for her was done in order to bring about her recovery, but it soon became evident that the case was hopeless and death was staring her in the face. Still she was hard and obdurate when urged to turn to GOD in repentance and take the lost sinner's place and trust the lost sinner's SAVIOUR.

One night she awoke suddenly out of a sound sleep, a frightened look in her eyes, and asked excitedly, "Mother, what is Ezekiel 7:8-9?"

Her mother said, "What do you mean, my dear?"

She replied that she had had a most vivid dream. She thought there was a Presence in the room, who very solemnly said to her, "Read Ezekiel 7:8-9."

Not recalling the verses in question, the mother reached for a Bible. As she opened it, her heart sank as she saw the words, but she read them aloud to the dying girl:

"Now I will shortly pour out my fury upon thee, and accomplish mine anger upon thee: and I will judge thee, and will recompense thee for all thine abominations. And mine eye shall not spare, neither will I have pity: I will recompense thee according to thy ways and thine abominations that are in the midst of thee; and ye shall know that I am the Lord that smiteth."

The poor sufferer, with a look of horror on her face, sank back on the pillow, utterly exhausted, and in a few moments she was in eternity. Once more it had been demonstrated that grace rejected brings judgment at last.

25 Truly, truly, I say to you, An hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God: and those who hear will live.

John 5:25 This verse speaks of spiritual resurrection. Everyone who hears the voice of the Lord Jesus Christ through the proclamation of the Gospel and trusts in Him will live. There is an immediate spiritual resurrection for every genuine believer.

28 Do not marvel at this: for the hour comes, in which all who are in the graves will hear his voice,

John 5:28 This verse now speaks of physical resurrection. There are two resurrections: resurrection unto life and resurrection unto judgment.

Who are those who will be resurrected unto life? Those who have done “the good things”. Does this mean man’s good works will qualify him to be resurrected unto life? No! For we are saved by grace through faith and not of works- Ephesians 2:8,9. The good works are evidences of having believed in the Lord Jesus Christ as God. But those who will be resurrected unto judgment are those who have rejected Jesus Christ as God.

39 Search the scriptures; for you think that in them you have eternal life: and these are testifying concerning me.

John 5:39 This verb “search” is in the imperative mood, thus a command. If we desire to receive eternal life, it is incumbent upon us to search the Scriptures, the Bible. The Bible points one to Jesus Christ.

I want to answer you fully my friend so please bear the length of my reply. Thanks. there are dispensational bearings related to this verse with respect to the the Sermon on the Mount which this verse is a part and there is a dispensational bearing also with regards to the term "kingdom of heaven" referrred here. But I dont want to go into that. We shall go into the PRINCIPLE that is delineated in this verse.

Mt 5:3 "Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Blessed here means happy and satisfied. We can only know true happiness and satisfaction when we realize our spiritual bankruptcy. That we cant do anything to save ourselves. Why is that? It's because our awareness of our spiriual neediness and poverty makes us look up and find fulfillment in what Christ can give. All of us have sinned, we are spiritually bankrupt in the eyes of God.

However, not all admit to this fact. Some because of spiritual pride refuse to own that they are sinners in need of salvation. Some using other other people as standard do not see themselves as sinners needing salvation.

They fail to realize that the standard is God not other people. And God's standard is perfect righteousness. Measuring everybody by that standard we are all found to be sinners in need of salvation. Realizing this spiritual poverty, the humbled sinner goes to Christ for salvation and therefore blessed.

Lu 18:10 "Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector.

11 "The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, 'God, I thank You that I am not like other men--extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector.

12 'I fast twice a week; I give tithes of all that I possess.'

13 "And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'God, be merciful to me a sinner!'

14 "I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other; for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."

Mt 5:3 "Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Here is an incident that happened in the life of Henry Allen Ironside, a man mightily used of God for the saving of souls through his preaching the gospel:

    A GOOD SINNER

"There is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" (Rom. 3:22-23).

"Are you saved, sir?" we asked a gentleman at the close of a Gospel-meeting.

"No, I really can't say I am, but I would like to be."

"Why would you? ?Do you realize you are a lost sinner?"

"Oh, of course, we are all sinners."

"Ah! but that often means little or nothing. ?Are you a sinner yourself?"

"Well, I suppose I am, but I'm not what you could call a bad sinner. ?I am, I think, rather a good one. ?I always try to do the best I know."

"Then, my friend, I fear there is little use seeking to show you the way of salvation. ?Good sinners, together with honest liars, upright thieves, and virtuous scoundrels are far from being ready to submit to the grace of GOD, which is only for poor, vile, hell-deserving sinners, who have no merits to build on, no goodness to plead, but who are ready to be saved alone by the work of Another, and that One the LORD JESUS CHRIST."

Further conversation but elicited the fact that the gentleman was far from being ready to be saved and would, according to his own declarations, rather take "his chances" as he was.

That beatitude is closely linked to this:

Mt 5:4 Blessed are those who mourn, For they shall be comforted.

Those who mourn for sin. Those who are contrite of heart will find comfort in what Christ Jesus did on the cross of Calvary.

Mt 5:6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, For they shall be filled.

Those who hunger and thist for THE righteousness. In the original, there is an article "THE" before the word righteousness. It means this is not just any other righteousness that this person is hungering and thristing for but THE RIGHTEOUSNESS that God can give in Christ.

    Php 3:9 and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith;

God demands perfect righteousness from us. We cant give it because we cant do it. We cant be perfectly righteous all the time. The Law of God the ten commandments was given to show us that we are sinners. To show us that we are spiritually bankrupt. It is a mirror to make us see that we cant be perfectly righteous by our own doing. why? because no matter how hard we try, we just cant help it but sin. We are sinners by nature--spiritually bankrupt. We need somebody who can give us that perfect righteousness:

2Co 5:21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

2Co 8:9 For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.

Mt 5:3 "Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

it was only when i realized that I am a hopeless and helpless sinner incapable of saving myself that I found the work of Christ on the cross sooo precious and infinitely valuable.

I was once an altar boy, but i was just going through the motions. Never found Christ death and resurrection precious and valuable. Never been spiritual [though i was religious] till i found Christ death and resurrection of infinite value.

The death and resurrection of Christ for my sins, is my treasure and my pass to heaven. It is when i realized that I am a poor helpless sinner that I realized i must go to another for my bankruptcy. It was then that I looked and found the Savior the Lord Jesus Christ rich for me. He died for my sins and rose again that i might be rich towards God. When i came to Christ and relied on Him alone God qualified me to be a 1) partaker of a glorious INHERITANCE ------ THINK OF THAT A POOR SINNER LIKE ME HAS AN INHERITANCE FROM GOD!!!!

Not only that, but 2) He also conveyed me into the kingdom of His Son!!!!!

Col 1:12 giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light

Col 1:13 He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love,

Blessed indeed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven!!!!!!!
