this is a great idea. i have been waiting for this kind of registry. however, based on the comments of some, it still needs some polishing.nevertheless, the TS has a wonderful thing going on here and i do believe his/her interntions are good.

i've seen the link...just want to ask: what if someone would like to register a single dog, does he/she need to have a kennel? what if the person who registered his/her pet is not a breeder?

We decided that the "Kennel Name" would not necissarily mean that the owner is a breeder, instead the kennel name would serve as mura ug unique "family name" so whenever your dogs would have litters, POCR could trace the lineage. =)

But it is still open to discussion and improvement though. =)

Nindot ni nga idea. Full support. Wla nay maka-basta2x ug gamit a certain well-known kennel name to those na wlay papers. Kitang katag kay ma-trace man. Share lng ko, just absorb the constructive criticism sa mga istorians and neglect the non-constructive criticism kay nasuya lng na sila, in other words " Modern Pharises."

@TS, with your kind indulgence, please answer this question. If you include a feature which allows your members to use a kennel name, how are you going to prevent them from using registered kennel names in the country and abroad which are protected by law?

I mean, they are protected by law because most established canine organizations in the world have juridical personalities and they have the power to sue and be sued in case of violations of their rights. For instance, PCCI is registered under the SEC. You cannot disregard the fact that all the Kennel Affixes duly registered under PCCI are also protected under the Philippine laws, particularly the Intellectual Property Law.

Yes, AKC recognizes unregistered or mixed breeds because it has a program for these dogs, such as "your dog will be eligible to compete in AKC Rally®, Agility and Obedience trials PLUS the exciting new Coursing Ability Tests AND eligible to qualify for the new AKC Therapy Dog title." All these do not require your dog, or your dachshund for instance, to have a pedigree.

In the Philippine setting, particularly Cebu, K9 CARE offers agility and sniffing courses. Pwede ra bisag aspin.

Justice Hugo i thought before your name will be protected by the intelectual property law you need to register it first to the government agency concerned and not to PCCI right? coz what you are saying is that if you are registered in PCCI then your kennel name is automatically registered and no other person can use it even if you didnt register in the intellectual property office right. correct me if im wrong sir, PCCI is just a corporation or company and they are not the agency who will register and prevent other person using the name of your kennel? thanks sir

The PCCI offers breeders the option to register their kennels as a way to protect the usage of their respective kennel names. The registration process gives the kennel name holder the asssurance that the PCCI, a juridical entity protected by law, will not allow any other individual to use the registered kennel name when naming the latter's dogs without the permission of the former.

Once you are a member of the PCCI, it is not automatic that your desired kennel name is also registered. You have to apply the same to the PCCI. Once granted, your Kennel Name is also deemed protected.

i see sorry for my ignorance sir....so if a breeder wants to register its name and prevent other persons in the philippines from using their name you must register it at the PCCI and not at the IPO? so its not the same with business name then like nike addidas starbucks and the likes where they need to register the said business name at the intellectual property office(IPO)?

so that kung sa mga name sa kennel ang storyahan sir ang government agancy incharge in protecting your kennel name is PCCI? sir PCCI is a government agency or a private corporation? i like to know sir so that in the future if in case i want to protect my kennel name i know where to go.

can PCCI prevent other person not registered under PCCI in using your kennel name? just an example sir Kennel name is WGSD registered under PCCI.....here comes another breeder thinking of a name for his kennel then uses WGSD infront of his kennel but this new comer did not register his kennel name at PCCI murag colorum ra cya sir but his kennel is well know in their area although not registered at PCCI...can PCCI sue this person or the power of PCCI is only limited to those of its members and those persons who wants to be a member and using same name of an old member?

Nope, PCCI is not a government agency. It is a non-stock, non-profit corporation. Your Kennel Name/Affix should be registered first in the PCCI before the latter can protect it and prevent other breeders from using it.

There's one conflict existing now. As far as I know, there is still a problem as regards registration of kennel names and pure-bred dogs in the Philippines when AKCUPI emerged. As to the root of the division, I am not in the proper position to say something about it. I simply don't know.
