^ There are still many others who are silently serving the people even if they are receiving compensation less than they deserve. There are many others who are willing to serve the public, maybe to carry a share of the public burden. Indeed, these people are the ones suffering with the bad publicity those corrupt officials are doing.

This is the reason why the government is pursuing efforts to increase the basic salaries of our government workers. They know most of the government workers are doing their jobs dutifully. But it would really balance the situation if the government will exert more efforts to pinpoint these corrupt officials to put an end to graft and corruption.

The increase is okay for the deserving few. But the problem is naa man sad increase ang mga walay pulos! They should only increase kana naa sa ubos, i.e. barangay health workers, ordinary soldiers, locally paid teachers, etc. Pero kanang naa sa gawas sa capitol ug city hall and the bystanders of BIR, they don't deserve a single centavo of increase!

you dont solve the problem of corruption by increasing the salaries of the public "servants"! believe me, the higher the salary of the public servant the more corrupt!

^ Of course, corruption will not be easily resolved with the increase of basic salary of our state workers. It should be side by side with stricter efforts to fight graft and corruption with those erring public officials. There should really be an end to corruption. We're paying government taxes because we wanted efficient delivery of social services and not because we want their own pockets full of government funds.

On the contrary, it is low compensation that is an incentive to corruption. With low pay which can barely feed their families, there is greater temptation for government workers to become corrupt.

Lower compensation for government workers breeds a cycle of low expectations. If they are paid well, they have less excuse to be corrupt.

The Salary Standardization Law has not been amended in ten years. With the much higher cost of living nowadays, it's high time the law is revised accordingly. More adequate pay will raise the morale of government employees. The ultimate beneficiary of this is the public, whose expectations of better services may now be fully justified.
