idol ma naay degree or wala, bisag asa ka mangaply naa nay test
certificates parihas anang sa TESDA, or kanang mga maapilan nimo nga mga seminars maka add nag impact sa employer sad,
pero adto rajud na daugon sa imung skills, masking ganing maka grad. kag bachelor like CS or IT, pero imung performance kay poor, lisud jud, if your a programmer then SOP nana ang self study, wa jud kay padulngan kung magsalig rakas imung makat.onan sa skwelahan, theres alot to be learned jud, daghan sad kog mga nailhan mga mga "banggiitan" nga mga programmers, and believe me, most of them dont have a bachelors degree, naa gani HS grad lang, pero naa siyay dako jud nga PASSION and MOTIVATION sa programming

personal experienced ni nako... mas mo matter ang portfolio kay maoy result sa skilss where as ang skills nga gisuwat lang or butangan lag rating is only superfacial... if you have portfolio to show, show it you wont regret... impress the client/employer with you portfolio and not with certificates and ratings...

Its better to have a degree.

If you would like to try your luck outside the Philippines, in countries like Singapore where lots of IT positions are open, mas nindot gyud if you're a degree holder. Case in point - its very difficult to have your work permit/employment pass approved by the Ministry of Manpower here if you're an undergrad. Most undergrads will not qualify for an Employment Pass level, as one of the major requirements is that the employee must be a degree holder.

im not looking to go abroad as a programmer for i could attain that with my degree which is nursing hehe programming is a hobby for me and I would probably be delving into independent dev but it is good to hear that i do not need a degree if i would want to try out working in a company...

No degree needed. Experience carries more weight when it comes to software development. But if you have no prior experience I would say a degree or some sort of computer related experience (independent software contact work or such) is a definite advantage.

Been developing software professionally for 12 years. No degree.

ill be flying to SG for a Mobile Application programmer nga work, and i have NO degree, but they've seen my portfolio, i was choosen because of it, and most engr and degree holder who applied to it didnt make it...

then again if you are still a student better finish it... if you are already working make some portfolio to show your client/employer
