The bill does make sense, especially since unemployment in America is high.

It's also pointless as to why incentives are granted to American companies that invest outside their country.

Really, we Pinoys should think about other jobs than call center this, call center that, etc.

And I say protectionism and big government are still good.

From a Filipino perspective yeah these laws would be damaging to our economy but if I were an amerecian I would probably applaud the lawmakers for crafting such laws... in the end american lawmakers do good for their country.

Maybe it's time for Pinoys - who have capital and the skills to manage - to set up their own, home-grown call center business to pick up the slack once that bill becomes a law.

That's what someone who doesn't understand economics would say. Politics is all about stakeholders, there are winners and losers in every decision. This will lead to some increase in employment but at the cost of higher prices for goods and services. Remember that companies are outsourcing here because labor is cheaper, so they can sell their products/services more cheaply in the U.S.

I think there was a study that if the U.S. stopped all imports of goods from China their inflation rate would shoot up to 400% annually. It all boils down to whether the increase in prices for everyone in the States is worth the slight increase in employment for a few people. In most cases, it's not worth it it's just another form of subsidies for sectors that aren't competitive. In the first place, even at 9% the unemployment rate in the U.S. is already relatively low and compared to our own unemployment is pretty good (and that is not even their normal unemployment rate).

What I see here is a knee-jerk reaction to mismanagement of the government budget. Their politicians are looking for somebody to blame, whether it's Philippines, China or India so they can distract ordinary Americans from the real problem which is overspending. If they did this, there will be retaliation from other countries. How would they feel if we banned all imports of Angus beef because we want to support our own farmers? This will make our farmers happy but how would you feel paying 100% more on beef? That's the real effect of these protectionist policies: inflation.

ni-abot na jud ang time for the BPOs/ callcenter here in our country... I still thank God ngano wala jud ko madawat og callcenters bisan grabe kaayu pag apply nako... I cant imagine unsa kaha mahitabo ani sa atoa nasud if this anti-outsourcing sa US pushed thru. yes, daghan affected & more unemployment rates coming up...

bitaw, if you are graduating of a good course in a reputable university, then i advise you to apply jobs nga relation sa imo course rather than apply callcenters. mao nang inig resign ninyo sa callcenter og applying for a job in relation to your course, dili jud mo madawat coz layu ra kaayu ang experience.

samot nga sagulan pa jud og politkia, backer system, and the like...

para nako it's a balancing act.
as much as they want to keep the jobs abroad, they can't compete globally kay labor costs sa ila competition baratoooo kaayo.

nagpahumot rana sila kay ting election na.
they will get some jobs back but it will take time and they will not get all of them back.

ang part of the allure sad nanu mu outsource ning mga companies is it is costly to hire inside their country than it is to hire outside. I don't know if the bill is designed to completely change that equation. Being a call center agent or a telemarketer is not an appealing job man sad sa U.S. gud, and it cost more to hire an American than it is to hire a Filipino, Indian or other outsourced employee. That said, if and when this law passes, it won't have much effect in the U.S., but it will be a big impact in the Philippines' unemployment.

kaning inflation sad and unemployment they have always been inversely proportional to one another, so that's something to watch. It is advisable for those rates to not go to the extremes.

    i believe they would.

with a high unemployment rate in the US and with huge debts, it would be stupid for them to not take the job. they would take the job and earn from it rather than ma imbargo ilang balay and go homeless.
