Some argued that Cebu's moviegoers should boycott the MMFF and instead organize our own film festival. Imagine that - for a period of two weeks starting December 25 each year, no foreign and no Manila films will be screened in any theater in Cebu and only Cebu-produced movies will be shown.

MMFF is all about money, not art, and not filmmaking quality.

    Revilla focuses on Panday 2

While his family is still embroiled in the controversy surrounding the murder of his half-brother Ramgen, actor and Senator Ramon "Bong" Revilla, Jr. has chosen to set aside his problems to finish the filming of the sequel to his blockbuster movie Ang Panday.

Two of Ramgen’s siblings have been implicated in the murder which is still under investigation.

Mr. Revilla politely declined to comment on the developments surrounding his half-brother’s death last month, and instead urged the public to let the courts decide the merits of the case.

"We all have to move on," Mr. Revilla told reporters last Thursday. "What is important is Christmas is near, and we all should celebrate the birth of Christ," he added in Filipino.

Mr. Revilla would rather focus in promoting his latest movie, Ang Panday 2, which will be shown on Christmas Day as an official entry to this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

The senator hopes the sequel will be able to match -- if not surpass -- the success of his first Panday movie which was shown during the 2009 MMFF.

That film was the ’09 festival’s top-grosser, earning more than P80 million after a week.

The movie also won seven awards from the MMFF, including Best Picture and Best Actor for Mr. Revilla.

"We want the sequel to be as good, or even better than, the first movie. We do not want to shortchange the audiences so we really made sure this movie will be worth their money," Mr. Revilla said.

Ang Panday 2 reportedly has a production budget of more than P80 million for its lavish production design and creative computer-generated imagery (CGI) and visual effects, which were reportedly done in Thailand and Australia.

In the movie, Mr. Revilla reprises his role as the legendary blacksmith Flavio. He takes on the challenge of protecting the world against evil forces, this time with the help of Arlana (played by actress Marian Rivera), a lady who transforms into the dragon Bagwis.

Returning as Flavio’s nemesis Lizardo, is Philip Salvador. Mr. Salvador won as Best Supporting Actor for the same role in the 2009 Panday movie.

Before Mr. Revilla took over, the Panday films were the province of Fernando Poe, Jr. who played the main character in four films between 1980 and 1984. The films were based on the comics character created by Carlo J. Caparas and illustrated by Steve Gan in Pilipino Komiks.

why would they go to thailand and australia for visual effects? we have our own animation company who can do it also. specially the ones who did the RPG Movie of Star Cinema.that one was world class animation.

Maybe the special effects people in Thailand and Australia have better talents or resources than the team behind RPG Metanoia.
