id say six core for future proof.

soon 4-core procies will go mainstream, and future softwares demands at least 4 cores. and you wl be paying less on 6-core AMD procie than 4 core Intel Core i5 2500.

I'd say future-proofing in IT suggests going for lesser value components as opposed to practical ones. When time comes that apps require more than 4cores, multicore processors would be of better value by then.

Several years ago, at the introduction of Q6600, it was proven that games benefitted more from the raw speed of the E8xxx series (during that time). After several months (new games went multithreaded), nagmahay ang mga nipalit ug Q6600 kay nigawas na man ang mga Q9xxx series which offered way better value.

In short, futureproofing is not always cost-effective..

but the best of what you need for now that suits your budget and upgrade later if need be... consider future proofing but not for more than 2 years... beyond that, i'd bet you'd rather want to upgrade altogether than retaining your old rig.

besides, there will be better six core based processors when that time comes...

ang q6600 sa una, mao to ang one of the pioneers sa quad procie mao nga mahal jud to. had one before (around mid 2007) that cost me almost 120K for a q6600-based rig.. whereas my i7 rig karon only cost me 40K+/-.. pero wa mn ko mag mahay.. hehe

based on the present value sa AMD FX procie karon.. ma consider sd nako cya nga cost effective.

AMD FX-6100 procie is almost same value with Intel's i5-2500 (wc is around 8.2K). mao nga suggest ko for TS to go for the 6-core AMD FX-6100

Still, the i5 offers better value and going for the "futureproof" approach would cost the TS a performance setback. IMO, that is really not a cost-effective measure. But we have our own different perspective anyway..

^I agree, at that price range, even the i5-2300 is a good buy. More than a year ago, AMD launched the Phenom II X6. Some enthusiasts ( mostly fanboys ) bought it for "future proofing" even if the performance says otherwise. Now, the phenom II x6 is still slower in recent games, even a lowly core i3-2100 can sit on top of it with ease. So to h**l with future proofing, get the "best" procie you can afford.
