here's a scenario that could unfold.

>Turkey attacks Syria
>Russia defends Syria by killing turkish forces
>US/NATO defends Turkish forces against Russians and Syrians
>Iranians join in, as Syria is their #1 ally
>Israel invades Iran
>China wins, granted they do not commit anything. Europe seems too busy with their meltdown.

It's pretty remote but, it is a possibility.

Turkey will not risk attacking Syria, not only because of Iran, but because it will lose its standing in the Middle-east Arab nations. already treated as a semi-outsider by the Arab world for being too close to the West and its liberal ideas, Turkey cannot afford the Arab world severing all of its ties.

even as the entire thing is unfolding in Syria, a number of countries in the Arab League, fearful that their moves can be used by the West to destabilize the region, yet at the same time wary of the Iranian influence, called for restraint. this is the reason why their stand is coursed through the League and not directly from these nations themselves.

i think that would be a last ditch effort on their end. besides Turkey will not engage in any unilateral military action against Syria without the blessings of the UN and the western powers. and it will try its earnest to get the nod from the Arab powers if it ever decides to do so.

if there would be something like an impending military action from Turkey, the initial reaction of the Arab powers is to try and resolve the entire conflagration within its own ranks, granting that Turkey is non-Arab, and have Turkey and everyone else stay out of it. what the Arab powers is on a close look out is not Turkey's move but Iran's. If Iran moves its chess pieces, expect the Arab powers to react.

i am sure that before any of the parties involved will take action, they would already be made aware of the ramifications. besides, this is no longer the World War II. high level talks are always happening even among opposing nations, to discuss on ways to avert military conflicts.

besides, any party, if it can help it, will not allow itself to be just another piece among others in a domino effect. granted that Turkey will initiate a military action, i am sure that it would ask for a UN resolution, or even an Arab League blessing.

making a move that would guarantee more enemies at your doorstep is not a wise more. the same would be true for Iran or Israel for that matter. any moves from both countries outside their borders will guarantee an Arab response. and we know for a fact that since an Arab response, militarily or economically will affect the world, the major powers will not allow it.

I think Turkey has entertained the idea of actually using force on Assad.

I doubt Turkey will use military force against Syria disguise as humanitarian buffer zone. Russia surely will step into the conflict to protect their interest. And Hezbollah & Iran might join as well.

Some rumors already circulating that Russia already smuggled S300 defence systems to protect Syrian airspace.

There's also news that the U.S. has increased its presence on the borders of Pakistan because there are strong indications, after that recent NATO incident, that Pakistan will have a role IF conflict do arise. There is a bulk up of NATO forces on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
