GaWC - The World According to GaWC

The world according to GaWC is a city-centred world of flows in contrast to the more familiar state-centred world of boundaries.

Cities are assessed in terms of their advanced producer services using the interlocking network model (see GaWC Research Bulletin 23). Indirect measures of flows are derived to compute a city's network connectivity – this measures a city's integration into the world city network.

The connectivity measures are used to classify cities into levels of world city network integration. These levels are interpreted as follows:

alpha++ cities In all analyses, London and New York stand out as clearly more integrated than all other cities and constitute their own high level of integration

alpha+ cities Other highly integrated cities that complement London and New York , largely filling in advanced service needs for the Pacific Asia

alpha & alpha- cities Very important world cities that link major economic regions and states into the world economy

All beta level cities These are important world cities that are instrumental in linking their region or state into the world economy

All gamma level cities These can be world cities linking smaller regions or states into the world economy, or important world cities whose major global capacity is not in advanced producer services

Cities with sufficiency of services These are cities that are not world cities as defined here but they have sufficient services so as not to be overtly dependent on world cities. Two specialised categories of city are common at this level of integration: smaller capital cities, and traditional centres of manufacturing regions

GaWC - The World According to GaWC 2010

    Cities with sufficiency of services:
Florence, Medellin, Winnipeg, Nantes, Sacramento, Toulouse, Recife, Dar es Salaam, Kaohsiung, Managua, Puebla, Surabaya, Hamilton, Christchurch, Bordeaux, Tulsa, Dakar, Halifax, San Antonio, Johor Baharu, Tirana, Cardiff, Quebec, Lausanne, Baku, Luanda, Bremen, Aberdeen, Birmingham (US), Dhaka, Nanjing, Chihuahua, Hannover, Naples, Providence, Penang, Omaha, Chengdu, Abuja, Port of Spain, Lusaka, Arhus, Leon, Fukuoka, Honolulu, Genoa, Kampala, Hangzhou, Palo Alto, Cordoba, Abidjan, Tbilisi, Qingdao, Skopje, Campinas, Rochester, Windhoek, Memphis, Nottingham, Ciudad Juarez, Dalian, Kyoto, Alexandria, Sheffield, Santa Cruz, Izmir, Gaborone, Cali, Dortmund, Norwich, New Orleans, Valencia (Venezuela), Cebu, Harare, Jerusalem, Basel, Macao, Montpellier, Minsk, Linz, Haifa, Douala, Labuan, Nice

Note that Cebu wasn't included in the previous (200 rankings
    That's better , but the point is ? ...

That Cebu just belongs to ? a so so city ? or an emerging city with services to ? and not dependent to world city but to what? where we off the list for long and now it is relevant because we belong in a list ?

Sorry to be difficult but I'm still trying to find out what your trying to say or post.

    Thanks ...

I think maybe, TS is just pointing out that in 2008, Cebu wasn't even part of the index, and in the recent 2010 findings it has achieved "Sufficiency tier", either Cebu's improving in the criteria provided by GaWC or other cities weren't doing as good. Maybe?

    i dream of a jeepney-less cebu.

If cebu city still uses jeepneys as the means to move people around. I think we still can't put cebu in the same light as singapore or those countries mentioned in the article.

+1 na i phase out na ang jeepneys, its time for changes na jud. the jeepneys now belongs to the museum and probably mga heritage or limited areas nalang. sge ta pahambog na pwede ta mahimo SG or HK in the future, pero if jeepneys gihapoin atu main mode of transpo, that aint happening. Plus labad kaau sa ulo makakita tag jeepney nag gamay rag sakay den nag traffic jam pa jud unya mag pataka pa jud ug hunong.

i know daghan gihapion mu reklamo if mawala ang jeepneys. mawagtang daw trabaho mga driver, yadayada.. lets think long term, if gusto ta mu asenso.

If there is a will there is a way ... find them better jobs , probably helping out with mass transit or something. I know its easier said than done , but until we stop thinking of votes going down the drain is the day we may see a shift in direction.
