mura manang index or classification whether which cities make a direct effect on global affairs. i think the criteria comes from politics, culture, economics, infrastructure. self explanatory raman nah, Alpha++ tier cities have the most impact in global affairs, down to Gamma- which have the least in the indexed cities, ang na-apil (alpha++ to gamma-) are the world's highest GAWC score rman tingali. It's kind of biased though, I don't understand why Tokyo wouldn't be in the Alpha++ tier.

A roster of world cities was outlined in the GaWC Research Bulletin 5 and ranked cities based on their connectivity through four "advanced producer services": accountancy, advertising, banking/finance, and law.[5] The GaWC inventory identifies three levels of global cities and several sub-ranks. This roster generally denotes cities in which there are offices of certain multinational corporations providing financial and consulting services rather than denoting other cultural, political, and economic centres.

The 2004 rankings acknowledged several new indicators while continuing to rank city economics more heavily than political or cultural factors. The 2008 roster, similar to the 1998 version, is sorted into categories of "Alpha" world cities (with four sub-categories), "Beta" world cities (three sub-categories), "Gamma" world cities (three sub-categories), and additional cities with "High sufficiency" or "Sufficiency" world city presence.

What do you/they mean by "sufficient" Kanang ug atong paliton, sufficient na? nga di na ta palit pa lain city? Like "a cup of rice is sufficient" for one lunch for one people ...

Or do you/they mean "self-sufficient" Meaning we don't have to have power from Ormoc and Palimpinon, and we don't have to have rice from Bohol, nor vegetables from Dalaguete, etc...

unless you can show us how this rating system is suppose to mean anything and what constitutes every level of classification, the chart you posted really means nothing at all.

• how did they come about this rating? what was this based on? how credible is the rating system that they have?
• how is the rating suppose to affect the city in general?
• will the rating affect the general standing/perception that the city has to other countries?

these and more questions are what comes in mind after reading your post. mind enlightening us?

Like Gareb mentioned , please explain your post , I checked link you gave us and it doesn't give me a clear explanation of chart. We can further look into what chart is on our own but that would defeat the purpose of posting something relevant or with sense or with a clear explanation what it means.

Lapu, Megaworld sign deal | Sun.Star

THE Lapu-Lapu City Government, through a joint venture with a real estate giant, plans to put up the city’s answer to Cebu City’s Asiatown IT Park.

Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza announced in a press conference yesterday that the City Government and Megaworld Corp. plan to construct the Mactan Town Center in Barangay Mactan.

Megaworld Corp. signed a memorandum of agreement with the City yesterday morning. The holding firm’s projects include mixed-use communities and office spaces for business process outsourcing (BPO) companies. A source privy to the Mactan project said the
development cost is projected to reach P2.5 billion.

Jericho Go, Megaworld first vice-president, told reporters the 16.8-hectare Mactan Town Center will be different from its counterpart in Cebu City, as it will not only cater to industrial and BPO companies, but also to commercial, leisure and even retirement services.

The town center will be overlooking the coast, Go said.

“All the successful ingredients to launch our project are in Lapu-Lapu City,” he said.

Go said they are also seeking accreditation with the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) in order to declare their project as an economic zone.

Once the project starts operation, about 2,500 jobs will be created, particularly for those living in Lapu-Lapu City, Go said.

For now, some potential locators include Quantum Leap, Accenture, Hewlett Packard, Dell and IBM.

Go said they will develop the property in such a way that expansion will be easily facilitated.

As of now, a building is being constructed, and utilities like water, electricity and drainage are already in place, he said.

To meet electricity needs in the surrounding areas, Go said they have given a commitment to the Mactan Electric Company (Meco) to allow them to construct a power station within their project area.

The Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) has also committed to provide water supply in the project area and to provide a water truck in the event that a shortage occurs.

Radaza, for her part, said the project will be beneficial to the city government as it will not only create more jobs for her constituents but will also generate revenues for the City.

The world according to GaWC is a city-centred world of flows in contrast to the more familiar state-centred world of boundaries.

Cities are assessed in terms of their advanced producer services using the interlocking network model (see GaWC Research Bulletin 23). Indirect measures of flows are derived to compute a city's network connectivity – this measures a city's integration into the world city network.

The connectivity measures are used to classify cities into levels of world city network integration. These levels are interpreted as follows:

alpha++ cities In all analyses, London and New York stand out as clearly more integrated than all other cities and constitute their own high level of integration

alpha+ cities Other highly integrated cities that complement London and New York , largely filling in advanced service needs for the Pacific Asia

alpha & alpha- cities Very important world cities that link major economic regions and states into the world economy

All beta level cities These are important world cities that are instrumental in linking their region or state into the world economy

All gamma level cities These can be world cities linking smaller regions or states into the world economy, or important world cities whose major global capacity is not in advanced producer services

Cities with sufficiency of services These are cities that are not world cities as defined here but they have sufficient services so as not to be overtly dependent on world cities.
