    Default Switch CLI question

hi, I was wondering if the switch CLI is the same as that of a router? co'z i tried configuring a switch once but when i turned it on i could not get through the switch prompt "switch>", it has a lot of optionS though such as []SYSTEM,[]PASSWORD and etc..none of those options would take me to the switch prompt..

The first question on the switch is asking you to go for initial config..just answer no..second is asking you to quit for auto install..just ans yes...the switch will go to swtich> prompt..

ug cisco imo switch, you will have the same CLI interface as a router. you can only do layer 2 operations on it. sakto na ingon ni saky, if it is new, you will be running the setup wizard. i would however suggest you click no para ma practice nimo ug configure ang switch using CLI nga ikaw jud mag type sa config.

initially, putting up an ip address will be enough sa imong switch. pero later on you will learn more things you can do on your switch to optimize your network.

the switch you are using is a menu based cli, it doesn't run the ios configuration type like the routers or the newer switches. probably you're using the old 1900s or 2800s. don't bother to get your hands full on those switches. try 2950s the least
