the only thing was that they went to the wrong authorities. so did William Friedkin and crew for THE HUNTED... the people they went to were foreigners who call Eskrima "Kali"... when Eskrima is in fact the original term for the martial art... most people identify this as "arnis", but its all the same...
the uniqueness of F.M.A. is the training where wielding the sticks or blades are first before empty-handed technique cos the sticks cos so much stress to the arms it makes one get used to it. and the strokes are the same whether empty handed or with a weapon.

There are some local films that i.m.ho. are one of 2004's best.
UTONG
CARLO BORROMEO'S THE WITNESS
PISTOLA
GIBANGAS KA
all four from Jurly Maloloy-on and company. What's amazing is that this filmmaker sometimes doesn't credit himself... And no, no, its n0t an Alan Smithee situation, if y'all know what I mean

				I also liked
THE TERMINAL - nice the way the writers explored the recurring theme of waiting. and is very good in delaying information or exposition e.g. what's in the planters can? why is Gupta so paranoid?
MAN ON FIRE - overlylong act one makes us feel for Pita and become on fire as well when Creasy does. but I think Ridley Scott's bro directs while under the influence. Comparable to this movie is IMPOSTOR, a very good script but the camera can't sit still.

the studio was indy, or at least thats what they call it. thing is, the line between indy and normal hollywood productions is very blurry. its obvious that LiT had big backing, because of sophia copolla and all, but what i think distinguishes indy films from normal films is the budget. theres a certain amount that you can't breach to consider the film indy. but they lie about the budget. indy films are very "in" right now, so they try to hide the figures to attract audiences. especially the marketing budget.
but sideways is a must see, its already garnering awards now, its up there with the aviator and clint eastwood's million dollar baby, and theres eternal sunshine.
