feel nako ang ESL mainly for fulfillment purposes na ksagaran sa mga ganahn jd mu.teach, not so sa mga nangita jud ug dagko na pay if that's what you're aiming for in the first place. ngano nka.sulti ka nga di ganahan ang call centers nimo?

Working as Call Center Agent & as ESL/IELTS teacher are totally different. Why?

When you work as a call center agent, you must be a "fluent" native speaker while in ESL teaching, no need. You'll just use our so-called, "Filipino English", which is slow but clear. I am a ESL teacher in two different companies. One is, I teach in personal (Individual & Group Class) and Online teaching (Individual).

I have no background or experience in the field of call centers. But I find the work easy but tiresome because of the continuing calls you'll be handling. Customers tend to ask some questions in regards to their problems and agents responds to those questions.

But in ESL teaching, its rather different. You need to study depending on the subject matter. It could be opinion, issue based articles, stories and the simple but deadly, "Basic, Immediate & Advanced Grammar English".

I have a student who is really a grammarian. He is really slow but smart. He's also a deep thinker, that is why our time of discussion is done in a short span of time. After we finish this book, we return back to the beginning. The bad thing about him is that, he keeps on asking questions on grammar that is really out of our discussion. It is sometimes bothering because you'd be lost in the discussion but as a teacher, you need to answer him. Most of them say, "A teacher knows everything" and they really have a point. The good thing about him is, you'll learn something.

For example, "I love you so much" & "I do love you so much". What is the difference between the two? The student is really bothered. At first, I was really confused. But as a teacher, we need to have this "convincing power" for our students not to predict our mistakes. That is why, I find the simplest things very difficult also. Anyways, back to the example, "do" there is called "emphatic verb". Verbs that gives emphasis to the action. As the teacher, you need to let him understand. Convince your students that you're a good lecturer. But the question is, did your student understand what you're saying? Are you sure they'd gotten your point? or they'll probably tell you to continue the discussion.

Personal & Online teaching may be different because the communication and interaction between the student. But still as the teacher, you'll have to use your teaching strategies. Give a good motivation to your students for them to be interested in the subject. If so, your class will go on smoothly.

One word of advise to all who wants to be teachers, "Study" and don't take them for granted. Who knows? They might known already the subject, pretend they don't know that's why they keep asking questions or probably laugh in their minds that your not a good teacher. The ugly truth.
