Unless those tubes in your diagram is made of fiber-optics (very expensive!) this idea will (literally) not hold water. And another is that your light source must have a candle power of at least half that of the sun (again, the closest being the electric arc produced by a welding rod) for this idea to actually work even with fiber-optics in place.

Mao sad lagi, that's what I learned from reading all the stuff online about this.

But the idea is new to me even though I've been using plastic bottles and water all my life. I mean, who knows what other objects/things that we use every day that we haven't realized could be used for more useful energy-saving ways like this one.

BTW, this idea will work even WITHOUT the bleach--the bleach is only there to kill algae or any living organisms that could minimize the transparency of both water and the bottle.

That guy is doing lots of things with plastic bottles--I believe he spearheaded a project wherein they used plastic softdrink bottles to build a school.

Yeah. We need lots of people like him who thinks of innovative ways to reuse things that most people throw away.

It's actually just the refraction of the light as it passes through the water inside the bottle. The bleach solution kills all of the bacteria and organism and prevents the formation of algae. This solution would allow the water to stay purified upto 5 years.

are you saying a plain pure water will do and the bleach has nothing to do with it but just keep it clean and clear?

Yep! Distilled or mineral water is preferred as there are lesser microbial count. Bleach solution will kill anything. Even the HPV virus.

I think you got it wrong my friend. I never said that refraction will amplify the light. It merely disperses the light as it pass through another medium (which in this case is the water inside the bottle).

so does this mean any plain clean and clear well do and the bleach only makes it free of contaminants and has nothing to do with the luminance?

I saw this one at Ayala Exhibit last March c/o USC-Architecture Dept. This one works well on highly congested slum areas where people use electrical light even daytime.
