Most if not all psychics employ what we call as "cold reading". There was a "Nightline" show where they documented these so-called "psychics". Here's the link to the full episode, although I'm not sure if those pips in Pinas would be able to watch the video:

Primetime Nightline: Beyond Belief explores the realm of the extra-sensory, the spiritual, and the experiences many call "beyond belief." - ABC News

And here's the video where they put these psychics to the test. I guess we all know what the results are:

'Psychic Detectives' Put to the Test | Video - ABC News

Napansin nimo ang mga local TV shows bro, pag sulod gani sa new year sige dayon pang interview anang mga pychic..pag halloween pud sige feature anang mga haunted house daw or kanang mga naka experience anang mga ghost...Nindot unta if naa dire sa Pinas ang mga shows nga parehas sa ila James Randi, Michael Shermer or Penn and Teller..lingaw siguro kaayo kay daghan kaayo ma debunk dire
Those morning shows with the stupid horoscopes I'm not surprised about. It's fine to take these "readings" with a grain of salt; they are not meant to be taken at face value. Ang naka apan man gud sa mga taw sa atoa, not only do they believe in this BS, they also pay money for it.

^^orc, I think we have to tone down the ridiculing. I'm working out some kind of a truce with the theists. Later, I'll seek clarification on Forum Rule No. 2, as regards where we draw the line between a harmless joke and provoking a quarrel.

    Peace.

yes hitch22, id like to, but they started it, and their not planning to stop anytime soon. all i did was post videos.

Teoding came in with guns blazing, telling me to commit suicide. its my first time to meet this character Teoding and Gjhone. im just in an autopilot sarcastic mode here. Should they stop, then ill turn manual. tit for tat

I was even doing these trolls a favor, by not reporting them, instead i let them be.

Way 'blema na, bay. Kun imong nabantayan, dili ko nimo makit-an nga mag-comment2x didto sa atheism vs. theism thread. The main reason for that is I respect others' personal belief, ma-theist man siya o ma-atheist.

Now, back to the main subject aning maong thread. But before that, a humble request: please let us avoid offending and inflammatory remarks on both sides. Kay dili gyud ta maghuman ana. Peace to you all, brothers and sisters.

This is exactly what I mean. Ang TS duna'y nagpahipi nga tuyo paghimo niya ani nga thread. Siya ang nag-una2x anang mga inflammatory remarks against the theists. Gigamit lang niya ang skepticism ingon nga front.

pinoy_09, would you believe they used to offer a course called Parapsychology in De La Salle U, with Jaime Licauco as head instructor? I'm not sure if they're still offering that or if they consider that a science. That's really a blemish on the school's reputation, in my opinion.

I believe, several years back, Licauco and James Randi had a back-and-forth exchange in the Inquirer, because the former claimed to have ESP. And you know what happens when Randi hears about claims like that: $1 million challenge! Randi, you'd be surprised to know, used to perform magic tricks in Manila as a professional conjurer.

James Randi's 80-something now. I'm not sure who'll be the next iconic skeptic in the US. One advantage a professional magician has over lay people is that they know how to fool people with misdirections and props. Imagine a charlatan trying to prove his supernatural powers in front of, say, Penn & Teller...or Criss Angel or Derren Brown. Uggghhh....what a nightmare. It would be like that James Hydrick humiliation on live TV.

ABS-CBN, I should say, have had a history of showing documentaries about psychic healings, ghost stories, seances, quack medicines, etc. I think they don't have a policy that prohibits sensationalizing these things, because it's good for their ratings. Sad to say, we don't have the Shermers or the Randis or the Penn & Tellers in our country...all these people are atheists by the way. Because although theists can be skeptics, they can be accused of double standard by the quacks. The quacks will just question: What makes your supernatural beliefs more true than mine? They can't say that to the atheist, because it doesn't apply. Unfortunately, in the Philippines, the atheists are a demonized bunch. The moment a person would say he doesn't believe in a God, he's already lost so much credibility.
