This is what alot of kids (and some adults) yell out on sight of my alien presence... which brings me to ask this question I've had bottled up for so long:

Do they teach Geography at schools here at all? Why does the general public assume that all foreigners are Americans?

Topic Starter it's good you mentioned that you were a foreigner its gives me an understanding where u are coming from , I say this because people abroad may not realize part of a problem we have in this country is a bigger percentage of its people are within poverty level if not below. While we have good private schools (mainly in manila , and some in Cebu) , not everyone can afford and budgeting for public schools are low, hence the quality of education given to majority may not be top quality.

Digging deeper , part of the reason why a lot of people you come across think most foreigners are americans is part culture , this country has somewhat a tight bond with the US , not only through a diplomatic level but you see it through television , people here love american movies, products (clothes, gadgets, food so on ) , even our boxing icon has an american coach which is easily associated.

So while geography maybe a good first step , culture plays a big part too

If it were me , I would love to share and explain to the filipino people my culture and country, next time someone thinks i'm american , that if you accomplish getting over the hump of certain people asking for money (wc is a problem too)
