I dunno why i find Jintan x Menma so adorable. But don't get me wrong though, i love Manma's character so much. It's so.. distinct and.. so.. noteworthy.. and adorably.. sad. Yukiatsu's one cool character, imo too.

This is basically why Jintan --to be specific: the Jintan x Menma pair makes me mad.

Jintan, alone, is not worthy of Menma's innocent and gentle personality... at least for me. Although the feelings that he showed and the effort that he exerted most of the time were admirable, it feels like he was doing it to correct the mistake he did on the past, and for the 'apology' he wasn't able to do. Even with the 'I don't want to lose Menma' feelings he had later, it just didn't feel right.

I guess I just didn't get that Jintan x Menma vibe. Unfair sad kaayo og solohon nasad ni Jintan si Menma.

How about: Menma x (Jintan + Yukiatsu + Tsuruko + Poppo + Anaru)

    Yeah. Because cross-dressing is cool.

Seriously, I feel for that guy. Between Jintan and Yukiatsu, I'd say Yukiatsu has suffered more. The times when he clenched his fist inside his pocket(when Jintan was asked whether she liked Menma), and when he pretended to see Menma, showed much of his jealousy and frustration.

But what caught my attention was the scene when Yukiatsu asked Menma if her hair was still long. A short scene near the end that showed Yukiatsu's pain again. Wanting to talk to Menma while relying on someone you hate must have been very hard.

Yukiatsu has only suffered more since he can't brush off his envy towards Jintan. But that's what makes his character endearing for some fans, too (and being Manma). Poor guy had to live in somebody's shadow.

But the only reason that i liked Jintan to be with Menma a lot more than with Yukiatsu is because his actions and indecisiveness towards the end was very human, albeit selfish to some. He was willing to risk everything and leave everyone for good, just to be with Menma. That was quite painful to watch. Poor guy wanted to be with her so much, you could almost feel his desperateness.

I admit, I may have been a little biased against Jintan.

He somehow reminded me of a jerk, Jin of Rozen Maiden. His character design and attitute in the beginning. Additionally, the initial reason why I started to watch Ano Hana was the hikikomori tag. After one or two episodes, I was quite disappointed since his image wasn’t the same as the hikikomori I had in mind. But since he has a cool father, I guess it was only natural.

Anybody who guessed Menma’s wish right? I thought her wish was for the group to regain their friendship.

Now that you mention it, he does look like a grown up Jun, albeit lacking the glasses. I have to admit that i also started watching it under the premise that one of the main characters is a shut-in. I do love some hikikomori elements in my animu. Though it doesn't seem too strong in this one.

Indeed, Menma's wish was for everyone to be

their old "Peace Busters" selves again (and iirc, for Jintan to act normally and to shed some emotions after his mother's death).
Their bickering and revelations at the end was a nice touch. It's funny how humans easily complicate things due to some emotional issue. Poor Popo seems to have suffered more amongst them though. That kind of trauma can dig deeper to a kid, imo.

I would've been happier if they showed a little more hikikomori drama (and I probably would've liked Jintan more). But that wouldn't be Ano Hana anymore, so it's just my problem and my fault for letting my expectation and initial impression affect my views on Jintan.

You can say that again. I like how another revelation was kept until the very end.

At this point, I was thinking of dropping a joke (to act cool (lol) and keep myself from crying in front of my sister and her guest), something like “Popo will confess his love to either Jintan or Yukiatsu” --then Popo’s revelation came out of nowhere. Big shock. I never anticipated it. The only revelation I was expecting at that time was Menma’s wish. And I agree, this revelation showed that Popo, who seemed to be the least affected by Menma’s death, suffered more than the rest of the group.

Just when I thought the two revelations (Popo’s and Menma’s) were the last BAAWWW scenes, and the farewell Menma scene would be a little happy, we get this:
    Spoiler!

    Mou ikkaiiii!… Mou ikkaiiiii!… Mou ikkaiiii!…

    Mou ii yoooo.

    I’ll never forget this scene, and I think I'll never be able to play hide and seek normally again ;_;

hay... pakanindot nalang jud ani nga anime. hehehe nindotan pud jud ko sa OP song ai. Usually, after 3 or so episodes, I begin to skip the OP, but for this one, I listened to the OP each and every episode. The song just fits the mood of the anime. Also, amazing pud ang ED song. I read somewhere nga the song was written 10 years ago and is about reunions and the anime is a reunion of friend 10 years later.

I was also initially drawn to the hikikomori tag of the anime. hehehe Jintan quit school and hardly goes out, that makes him a hikikomori, pero I think we've been exposed to animes with extreme hikomoris, nga we end up thinking that Jintan is not hikikomori enough. hehehe

i like jintan x anaru better

So that explains the additional "10 years after version" line in the title of the ED song.

and yep, amazing OP song as well... and a good OP video that syncs excellently with the song. I like the part when it focuses on Menma then the view quickly shifts focus on the blasting rocket just before the chorus.

i especially like the opening part sa song, its very distinguishable and the video ana nga part kay nice pud, sync jud sa song, una kay gipakita nga gamay pa sila, then ila dayon present self.

this is the perfect anime to recommend to the common people, labi na kanang di tigtanaw og anime. to break the notion that anime is for kids or its all about fighting.

countless times friends and acquaintances would be somewhat confused when i share that i like anime but i don't watch naruto
