    - iyang toys mas nindot pa sa imo...

Canadian Envoy: ‘Crab Mentality’ Holding Filipinos Back

DAVAO CITY, Philippines, Aug. 2 -- The Filipinos’ crab mentality may be hindering the Philippines from progress, a foreign diplomat winding up his stint in the country said.
Canadian Ambassador Peter Sutherland described the Filipino people as "resilient" but he said they should conquer their "crab mentality" to attain real development.

"Some people do have the tendency to have [a] crab mentality," he said during last week's visit here. He said it could be one of the reasons why the Philippines lagged economically and socially.

He acknowledged some progress in the country's economic conditions but he said ordinary people had yet to feel this.
"The economy can only be great if men on the street can actually benefit from it," Sutherland, who will end his three-year stint this month, said.

During his years of stay in the country, he said he learned to love Filipinos for being "incredibly happy people."

"I am impressed by the Filipino people because of their being resilient and too forgiving," he said, adding that "despite great depredation, Filipinos are incredibly friendly."

Azkals' Coach Michael Weiss Traumatized By Filipinos' Crab Mentality: The Coach Speaks His Heart Out

    ....

Had I done so, the score might have been easily 8-0. We were up against a superior squad which had been together for years but I have only had my team for six months, so we did what had to be done.

I have coached all over the world and have given my best to the Azkals, who have made great progress given the time we have had with them, and yet it isn’t even enough.

Now I am beginning to understand the crab mentality in this country.

I am the coach and have to make the hard decisions. If you want to question my actions, approach me and I will explain why but just do not criticize until you know the reason why. If you are not satisified, that’s fine but please don’t criticize just for the sake of criticizing.

These people are not even part of the coaching circle where we discuss all our field decisions," he said. "If they were in my difficult shoes I wonder what they would have done."

Pacquiao hits crab mentality, voices hurt

    ....

Sporting a cut that required 18 stitches beneath his right brow from his March 16 brawl in Las Vegas, Pacquiao could not hide his dismay during a news conference upon his arrival from Los Angeles when he was asked about doubts on his latest ring victory.

“That’s what hurts,” Pacquiao said in Filipino, describing the carping as “crab mentality.”

“It’s our fellow Filipinos who doubt my win and someone is even calling for an investigation. What kind of investigation is that, by the Senate or Congress?” he asked.

    ....

But some boxing analysts have called Pacquiao’s victory a sham, claiming that he lost to the Mexican boxer on their scorecards and did not deserve the World Boxing Council super featherweight crown.

    ‘Inggit lang sila’

“Inggit lang sila (They’re just envious),” Pacquiao’s wife Jinkee said, parroting a reply from behind her when asked for comment.

Pacquiao said he did not hear such snide remarks in the United States after his latest fight.

“In America, nobody says Marquez won. The only ones who are saying Marquez won are his trainer and those in his camp ... of course that’s natural for their camp ... In America, they were convinced about my win,” Pacquiao said.

Well a simple suggestion, stop letting the kids mingle with other children to avoid comparison.

That will be a brilliant idea!

You see, it's not just Filipinos! That kind of mentality can be seen in other nationalities. I'm a Fil-Chi but I admit sometimes I have this kind of mentality.

The thread is about minimizing crab mentality and not about how to raise a nation of introverts.
