    Default Time.....

Before i ask my question... has anyone here ever seen "Into the Universe with Stephen Hawking"??

One episode he talks about time... and that traveling to the past is impossible.. How did he theorize this? He gave and example using champagne and pizza... then gave away a bunch of invitations .... telling future time travelers the exact time place and date of his so called party... sadly enough no one came... well that wasnt really an experiment.. it was just an intro saying its impossible to travel back in time... Why? He said the feedback would be too great... he gave an example where one guy readies a gun... then goes around the other side in front of him is a time machine and there he can see himself readying the gun... and shoots...... *everything stops* here lies the problem... A paradox ensues...

if he shot himself readying the gun.... then who would go to the other side to shoot the gun in the 1st place with me so far??

he then explains that the feed back from the time machine would be too great that the tunnel from both times would be unable to form....

he then gave an example of a microphone and a speaker...... and feedback... where to much feed back would over load the system and destroy it.. and same goes with the time machine....

    Now.. here my question.....

His example ( about the guys shooting himself ) is like placing a microphone right next to the speaker.... of course the feed back would be great.....

But what if you dialed farther back in time would the feed back be the same? if he gave the example about the microphone and speaker... why not dial so far back in time where it would be like the speaker would be in another continent and the microphone is in another continent.... will there be any feedback then??

just food for thought guys.... what do you think about it? time fascinates me...

Would it make a difference if you got shot in the head by a Barrett sniper rifle from 1000 meters, compared to getting shot in the head by same rifle at 1 meter? The end result is the same--you end up dead.

the example of shooting part was that a paradox would occur.... im trying to figure out... about avoiding the paradox ..... and avoiding the feed back....

I shouldn't have used a shooting example so as not to confuse you. The point of my post is, distance of the "microphone" and the "speaker" as you mentioned in your post are irrelevant--the paradox will still be there.

guess your right...... it will be there... but will it enough to overload the system.... ? well thanks for the rep by the way....

either way... if it is even possible... some say the grandfather paradox happens... and some say if the theory of multiple universes is true... then if you do shoot yourself in the past... nothing will happen.. instead another universe will just branch out...

How can you travel to the past when it doesn't exist? The so called past we know is just a collection of memories... all we have is an ever changing present, no past nor future..

Hmm, I don't really get where the food for thought is. Your example of a microphone and speaker has nothing to do with time travel. You simply have a system where you are feeding back the same resonant energy to the system and thus amplifying the overall signal. This is the same a s LASER where you have 2 highly reflective mirrors and you have a photon bouncing back several times and amplifying itself by the LASER material and when it leaves the system, it is now highly intense. This is exactly what happens to the eerie sound that you get from feedback from a microphone and speaker. Unfortunately, this has nothing to do with time travel.

With regards to your question about putting the microphone and speaker in different places, eg. continents, if you are realistic, then this may not be possible. But under certain conditions, it may be. Let's make it remotely possible. Take a seismic wave amplifier where you put the seismic detector (microphone) on one side of the world and put its seismic emitter on the opposite side. Increase, your amplifying power and you might be able to get some feedback.

I think what you are trying to get here is that if you travel too far back in time, you might not get any feedback and this maybe time travel might be possible based on your microphone-speaker analogy. Unfortunately, again, this is a very poor analogy. Time fascinates me as well. There was a thread before about time. It was quite an interesting discussion. You might want to check it out.

feedback is used in a closed loop system. like stand alone systems.

Distance (mic and speaker) and time (further back in time) are two different thing IMHO.

He just used that example (mic and speaker) as an EXAMPLE of FEEDBACK system.

If you kill yourself before you enter the room, there'll still be a feedback, but a delayed one and eventually, would increase..

Time travel is just another fairy tale like Peter Pan and Harry Potter..
