Oh, btw, I'm Greek and part Egyptian
it is basically the same when the average caucasian thinks that asia is either Chinese, Japanese or Koreans.
It is not only in The Philippines, most Asian countries would automatically assume White Person = American. I think hollywood plays a major role in that.

My BF would probably be called the same thing when he comes to visit in Cebu though he is half American and half Egyptian

Thanks for all the info guys, makes sense now after picking up a little historical insight here. Reason I mentioned "geographical" was because the assumption I had that kids here didn't even know continents like Africa or Europe exist (eg.) and that white skinned people could also come from France. It's only really the backward, ignorant people from Australia (where I was raised) that would refer to Filipinos as CHINESE (even though this stereotype tends to shit me to no end). I have enough experience on my part to tell a Jap from a Chinese.

The only reason I find it offensive to be referred to as an American is because... well...

we all know they are generally the idiotic, cesspool of humanity

Japanese. Jap is a racial slur.

well, a full blood chinese mistaken me to be chinese, when i said no, she guess further if i was japanese.. when i replied in the negative, she tried a third time.. that i am korean.. and i am a full bred BISAYANG DAKO.

it has nothing to do with geography.. or geopolitical identity..

just a perception. nothing to it..

Im saying the stereotyping is lame. Not the lack of Geographical knowledge.

Yeah, I was mostly being sarcastic with the geography part (although I dont think it was necessary to add it due to my irritation).
