Mostly sa mga bookworms they lack the real world experience (but there's always expection to the rule). I believe the lack of real-life experience is the reason ngano mo fail sila sa ubang butang hence the term " BRIGHT MAN UNTA KA PERO BOGO LANG". they usually fail in Love life, family life, or sometimes real life in general. & the sad part is they don't want failure. Street smart man gud kay risk takers, the word "STREET" itself mohatag na sa meaning. you learn to become street smart by learning to be tough, by being adoptable to any situations. makat-on ka mo "Diskarte". example would be selling or being an agent.. of course they train you to become an ideal agent but the people who will win are those who are Ma-"Diskarte" (using common sense of course), mostly baga jud og nawng (not in a bad way). you will only learn by experience.
lahi pud akong pagpasabot ani hahaha
anyways lahi lahi man jud ta
sakto ni niya ang akong pagsabot kay kini

we can't compare a streetsmart and a booksmart by their experiences in life cause both of them have different lives. Of course naa juy mga taw nga streetsmart because they have encountered hardships and all. Wala nila makuha ilang common sense sa ilang experience cause in the first place pagchoose palang nila daan sa pgiging streetsmart is already a part of common sense. Naa nana silay common sense daan, nadevelop lang sa experience. The fact daan nga naay mga taw ingun ani, it means inborn nana. Naa bitaw uban nga pobre ug naa sa street pero wala kamove on. Why? It is because their degree of common sense is low. Kinsa may taw na walay common sense? Common sense refers to our innate instincts. It is with in us. Everybody has it. The only question is, Are you using it?

. didnt you say you can have both as its free? therefore you can be a streetsmart at the same time a booksmart.

malingaw lang ko maam ha when you say common sense is inborn, this one doesnt make sense gyud. maka ana man pod ta diin man tawon ka nag eskwela? common sense is a product of experience, common sense is acquired through life experience, ayaw ko ingna pagka bata nimo naa na dayon kay common sense?kabalo na dayon ka nga ug mutunob ka ug bildo masamad ka? nga ug imong ipatong imong kamot sa kayo, masunog ka?OFC NOT! .it is either you experience it yourself or you are being told or re-told.

i came up with another equation napod

LIVE + LEARN + APPLY= COMMON SENSE ( IF YOU FAIL EITHER IN LEARNING OR APPLYING THEN THATS WHAT GETS YOU INTO TROUBLE )

This is a hard one. You can't just choose one and ignore the other. You can use your common sense to its maximum potential, but if you do not have the textbook knowledge to back it up, it somewhat becomes pointless.

Some of you here said a college degree is almost useless, and all you really need is "diskarte" and "common sense". Try living in a developed country and let's see how far you can go using common sense alone. The fact of the matter is, most of the time getting a college degree, which entails gaining knowledge through books, is the way to become successful.

I prefer the term streetsmart rather than common sense. I think both (booksmart and streetsmarts) are inseparable.

i agree on your first paragraph sir. .

BASIC KNOWLEDGE + COMMON SENSE= SUCCESS
    BASIC KNOWLEDGE - COMMON SENSE= FAILURE/ NONSENSE

but with the second paragraph, i dont agree when you say college degree is very important.alot of successful people didnt finish college. daghan graduate sa atua, mga degree holder gyud na pero tambay-tambay ra

you dont gain knowledge from books, you are gaining informations from reading and once its applied in real life then thats what you called as KNOWLEDGE. .

    just my 2 cents sir.

i think you have misinterpreted the definition of innate
it means it is produced by the mind. It does not mean that inig bata nimo kay mukalit lang kag tabi

Aagin, common sense is the inborn ability to sense, judge, or perceive situations, inborn rational capacity.

    in tagalog.. natural, likas

Two sides of a coin - without either side, the coin has no value or incomplete.

Same principle applies to humans in general - we need both to survive and excell ; to live well.

not necessarily a college degree sir. as i have noticed we have foreign technical support group that is only high school graduate from their country but we are paying alot. for me mas practical na ron ang technical competencies kay daghan na kaau ta ug mga engineers.

    just my two cent

inborn ability to sense?let me question you about that one, when you were a kid, you didnt know what playing fire will cause you do you? it doesnt stike straight in your mind that once you put your hand on top of a stove itll burn your hand.

isnt this why you are taught by your parents to stay away from sharp things and dont play with fire?

you said common sense is an inborn thing, scroll up maam, read again your previous answers. . kani nalibog na gyod ko

You have a point.. the "ability" is inborn, but the skill in using it effectively or voluntarily is enhanced or developed through experience.

To animals, it's called survival instinct, which humans do not follow often nowadays.

So without nurturing, that common sense will be dormant or cease to operate in the mind. Practice makes perfect, right?
