There are more than one ways. 1. of or relating to the intellect, as opposed to the emotions . 2. expressing or enjoying mental activity - EXPRESSING - this is where I think that Common Sense frontlines. We read..we memorize, we enumerate, fill in the blanks, but without a respectable level of Common Sense..what you read and memorize will just remain to be words that are written in books and will not apply to what works in the real world. The doctors, as your example, without such level of Common sense will not be able to analyze and diagnose more effectively if they will only rely on itemized chronologic series of words in their books.
    i get your point
maybe it's just a matter of principle.
i rely on books but it does not mean i don't use common sense
for me, i improve intellectual power is by gaining information and applying it
i am referring intellectual power as mental ability
and i expound mental ability by using my brain like reading books from simple to complicated ones and IQ books
    IQ right?
how do you improve your cognitive skills?
how do you improve your mental ability?
    read read read
i am referring man gud to students here especially the kids
they have tests, they have exams
most test are in objective form
so how can these students pass? through common sense?
i hope you get my point

    what you mean is IQ,
to improve your IQ then you have to start reading, studying, learning
    watch movies,
    read books,
    surf,
    be curious
    experiment
there are many ways to learn you just have to keep digging and digging instead of just settling for mediocrity

if you are still a student, you have to borrow books from the library so that as you level up you can adjust yourself from books
it all starts with simple books: fiction
    then you it becomes thicker
    then more comprehensive

i started from michelle, sweet valley to nancy drew and sweet valley high to inspirational books, then non fiction then history books, joke book,s a lot of IQ books, and you have to read everyday, you have to set time on reading. Make sure you like what you read so that you can retain it. In college, you'll end up settling for books of your course and if you are not fund of reading, you will end up sleeping. Yeah. The fonts are so small, not enough illustrations and some books are so hard to understand. One example is Black's Medsurge.... tsk tsk

People nowadays are on the net so the tendency is they wasted too much time on stupid and unimportant things.

Passion is always the key to a better learning.

If you want to learn then study.
If you don't want to study then stop dreaming on becoming intelligent.

and another thing, what is IQ if your EQ is very low....
attitude, personality, character.. IQ and EQ together defines who you are.

now how do you apply common sense para makapasar ka?
i am referring to students here
i am referring to those who are studying

I think that in forums that Ive read here...most of us have the tendency to stick to what we have started..so no matter where it leads us..we still stick...its good, its principle..but when we see that there is more to what we want to stick to..we have to acknowledge that we dont hold all thats right....it would be nice if we recognize how things can compliment to produce better results..Books are Good as Common Sense but Common sense is what we need to improve to strategize life and where it can lead us.

but we are not talking about passing school here are we?we are talking about how to improve one's intellectual power and an intellectual power doesnt just have to be about going to school everyday and learning from books, afterall how many hours and years do you spend in school compare to after school and you have to live the real life?

yienahhs have said that life is not about common sense but if you put it in an equation, all of us went to school and learn how to read and write and know whats right from wrong, thats basic knowledge right?

SO,KNOWLEDGE (YOU LEARN FROM SCHOOL) + COMMON SENSE ( YOU NEED TO APPLY AFTER SCHOOL)= WISDOM/ SUCCESS

BUT KNOWLEDGE (YOU LEARN FROM SCHOOL)- COMMON SENSE (BECAUSE ONLY FEW PEOPLE HAVE THIS)= NONSENSE. (FAILURE).

why do you think people always say "life is how you make it?" where do you think that saying come from? no one has ever said "LIFE IS ABOUT BOOKS"

i must really say your living in dreamland maam, "PASSION IS ALWAYS THE KEY TO A BETTER LEARNING" indeed thats true, but dont tell me after you finished uni you are still gonna keep reading books? are you telling me your gonna have to memorize all those books for you to survive in everyday life? what about after you get married have kids and then you have to work and make money to support your family?

if your just up to passing your exams i guess your better off staying in school than face the REAL WORLD. cause its very easy to pass an exam it takes a couple of days to memorize your lessons and self determination that you would pass but when you pass, what happens after that? .

honestly maam i respect your opinion but the type of work i do, i dont believe in reading books, einstein didnt either. he refused to read books because he reckons theyre just crap.

ill say this over and over again,id rather have common sense than be a booksmart . afterall you only spend 1/8 of your life in school

go on with your common sense while i go on with my life
    it's really fine with me
    i don't owe you anything
