RP-Japan accord ‘toxic’

This was broadcasted earlier this evening on TV. This is another pathetic attempt of the government to foster ties with Japan. Can this get worse? We are talking about toxic electronic rubbish ranging from computer circuit boards to cellphone batteries, etc. These wastes will bring in sicknesses and oh boy, we are exporting our dear nurses and caregivers to the very country that's poisoning us. It's like handing over the baseball bat to the assailant.

It will not be long until another progressive country will make the same deal with us. Our country will be the biggest dumping site in the region simply because we allow it (take note, Japan has been dumping their wastes discreetly in the country for quite some time already. it's funny how they're formalizing it now...)

We are setting off a signal that we are indeed "hugawan" and we welcome garbage in exchange for a few moolah. I seriously do not believe in the benefits of this agreement. This is way too sickening.

Or wait, maybe Japan just saw the government when it was looking for a giant rubbish bin. oh well, if they'd just ditch all these garbage inside malacañang, i'd applaud this agreement big time...

if you consider manila as -- already a toxic zone... ok ra sad diay nga mahimo og toxic zone ang uban place sa philippines.

and filipino people should be bothered by it.... its our health that is on risk here.... we don't know what harmful effects this toxic waste would bring to our country.

I'm not bothered by it. The government is not stupid enough to allow toxic waste to be dumped in our country. Oh i forgot, it's not toxic... it's regulated waste. Know the difference.

its not the case of wether its toxic or regulated waste as you stated but its a clear violation for us filipinos. will you allow other countries to dump their waste on our land? i dont really undertand what regulated waste means but the act of allowing them to dump their waste on our land is really a huge violation. i think it is exploitation...WASTE is WASTE...ayaw na intawn pun i ang kahugaw sa pilipinas...

Did I say something like I was in favor of it? I'm not just bothered by it, period. Again, will you think the government would allow waste from japan to be of utmost importance and allow them to make us a garbage can? We have a contract, yes, but that doesn't mean we couldn't work around it well.

Work around on how to prevent Japan from dumping waste in the Philippines, not to dispose it properly.

There are international laws that should be followed even if we have this Japan- Philippines Agreement. In as much as the Philippine government would not allow that toxic wastes be imported here in the Philippines, these laws certainly prohibit the transfer of toxic waste. Hence, we should not be so wary about this.

Nonetheless, the concern to preserve our environment should really be shown by the people.

Oh pls…making a big deal out of this issue is pathetic. Am sure PGMA did just not sign a worthless treaty and so much more, I don’t think she will risk the country for this agreement, knowing that we have too much problem regarding it. If just sign it for nothing, then she including her family will also, as a citizens of this country will also definitely suffer the its consequences.

Could we have the full script of the accord. I think what comes out in the media are just misinterpretations from various sectors whose hidden agenda could be affected in this agreement.

I don't think that Japan will be damping their waste in the Philippines, being an environment conscious country and an advocate of the Kyoto Protocol.

The JPEPA is still a win-win pact for both countries.

It might be, the media are over reacting/ misjudging or misinterpret this issue. Some people are taking this deal LITERALLY. Hirap kasi sa atin minsan, we prefer to listen to the negative side of the issue, simply because we wanted to make things complicated or more complicated as it was and at the end of the day the government will be blame for their s******d moves..
