Better learn one language, in fact, be a master of it but most importantly, understand the concepts behind. All other languages will naturally just follow, if not will be piece of cake

Not really. If you think you can manage it, then by all means. Learning X languages at the same time will not only help you understang the concepts behind programming, it will also acquaint you with differences in programming designs, patterns, practices and whatnot. Sure, mastering one language is good, but like you said, all languages will flow if you understand the concepts. The thing is, though, concepts, approaches and practices for each language are different and unique to a certian degree. IMO, learning this in the shortest amount of time possible is best for the learning programmer.

    =)

    Ah... no.

    - If you think you can manage it, then by all means - Funny, learning one language is much easier than learning two simultaneously. Or if you meant, mastering a language can just jump and dive into a new language, hell no, but you can catch up faster if you know the concepts.
    - The argument about learning languages in shortest possible time is not really debatable. If you can understand and master the language in say 1 week then feel free to jump to the next one. There is no limit to it. My point is not just to learn the language but to understand it, it is your foundation. There should be a stepping stone or baseline.
    - A learning programmer does not stick to just one language, I agree, but it is useless to have different languages under your belt without understanding them fully.
    - Software approaches, designs, patterns, etc. is different in every language is correct but you can read the documentation of that new language and apply it to your language, isn't it? If you can't, you can 'google' for plugins or libraries or interprocess that can help you do that, there should be some intermediate layer to make it work. Or if you want hardcore, tweak the compiler and create your subset language. Or it could be that the pattern is just not the right solution to your problem.
