Suspects in rape-murder of deaf-mute caught in Cebu

Three suspects in the rape and murder of deaf-mute Cherame Gitgano over the weekend are now in the custody of the Lapu-Lapu City police office.

Fiel Pinote, Renante Limpangog and LG Mesa were turned over by officials of Barangay Basak to the police. The 4th suspect, identified only as Julius and believed to be the mastermind in the crime, is still at large.

A star witness identified the suspects to police. According to the witness, he invited Cherame for a talk outside the barangay disco.

Cherame was said to have followed him behind the "peryahan" where he answered the call of nature.

It was at this point, according to the witness, that the 4 suspects appeared.

The suspects held him down while they took turns in raping the girl.

The witness said Cherame was raped in 2 locations behind the "peryahan."

The suspects allegedly smashed Cherame's face with a stone. Her dead body was found Monday afternoon in a grassy portion in Barangay Basak, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu after she was reported missing last Sunday.

The suspects, however, denied the accusations.

Cherame's family said they are thankful that the 3 suspects have been arrested.

dapit ra baya ni sa akong gipuyan run. ang mastermind kay nakaikyas. the said suspect had a case before for kidnapping. naa siyay gidala na highschooler sa ilaha. minor de edad baya tong bata-a. niuban sad kay arangan man sad ning lakiha. mao tingali niuban ang bae and she was intoxicated sad. naa man to siyay kauban nag-inom, niuna lang silag uli. ambot nganu wala sad siya gipangita kay dungan raba tana silag abot.
